The wrecks are found in the sectors they are listed in....but that doesn't mean you don't have to do some searching in the sector itself in order to actually locate the wreck (I've spoiled enuf as it stands right now...
). In some cases, due to sensor interference from the region surrounding the wreck, the searching can be quite....extensive. I won't try to fool you: finding some of the wrecks can be quite challenging, especially if there are hostile factions in the area (to mention nothing of potentially hostile terrain).
My recommendation to help you find wrecks:
1) Make sure you have
nothing selected in your target list...because sometimes having something selected messes up the grid lines on your navigation map, and you need accurate grid lines for the next step.
2) Using the nav map, plot waypoints as close to each of the four corners of the sector in question as possible.
3) Fly to each corner. But keep an eye on your navmap from time to time.
4) If the wreck hasn't been found after the 4th waypoint, go back to the first waypoint. (This step covers the last "edge" of the sector square)
5) Finally, do both diagonals of the sector (i.e. go to opposite corners).
Of course, this is easier said than done, especially if you have hessians or whatnot taking potshots at you as you search. But I guarentee that if you do all 5 steps, you'll stumble on the wreck eventually.
