What was the original concept of Freelancer ?

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

What was the original concept of Freelancer ?

I was thinking what were the original concept ideas of Chris himself pertaining to the freelancer universe ?

"Lets blow some **** up" is my guess.

dude "Lets blow some **** up" is the concept for 99% of the games out there!

Dude, where's my Super Star Destroyer?

Ok, fine...let me refine my theory: "Lets go blow some **** up while flying a space fighter"

well now that you've narrowed it down to every single space sim ever built...

welp if youve ever had a mac (i have 5 years ago) there was this game called Escape Velocity. The resemblence to that game (Escape Velocity) is so close i'm surprised the maker (Ambrosia Software) didn't sue Digital Anvil. WElp i guess it was because EV(escape Velocity) was 2D but whatever thats my answer. to your question.

If anyone had ever kept up on this game, it originally planned to be two games.

One immersive single player game not unlike Wing Commander and Privateer

and one seperate MMORPG. Dunno what a MMORPG is? Massivly multiplayer online role playing game. Everquest, Ultima Online, Star Wars: Galaxies, etc.

The original idea was ALOT bolder than what the game turned outt o be, mostly because most of the ideas got shot down back to Earth.

The game was originally going to be massivly multiplayer, not single player. It was not meant to be a blast-fest. None of his games were EVER blast fests.

Sadly as time went on most of FL's great features are now pretty ordinary or not implemented as well as they could be. It's a damned shame.

No funny sig. Deal.

It's really too bad the concept got lost when Roberts left the game. It could've been so much better (mind you, I am happy with what we got, it's still a great game ). A true persistent universe MMORPG-style Freelancer would totally kick ass.

A persistant MMO would have many of the same problems as the current version does....you'd just run out of stuff to do. Unless, of course, the game had been really freaking huge to begin with...
