Desperate rep question

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Desperate rep question

Yes, I've checked the rep list posted on this board first and written down all the bases where junker bribers show up.

Then I went out and searched them.

I've seen more than enough junkers to bribe (hoovering lits the 'Junkers $' sign above their heads), but If you click on them, the bribe apparently seems to be for another faction, 'AMG waste disposal' most of the time.

Do I have to find someone from 'another' faction in order to level my junker rep?

I think so. Although it should also be possible to alter your reputation with the Junkers through a Junker. But it seems easier to alter the reputation of the Junkers through for example the Liberty Rogues on Buffalo Base in New York. Just leave the bar and come back if they offer a bribe for a different faction.

I can try to kill some xenos instead, isn't it? That will level my rep with the junkers, and with others too?

I've done some xenos-shooting (at the detroit munition, not sure) for about 2 hours. I would like to know how many of those xenos I've to kill?

My current rep with the junkers is between 4 and 5 blocks red. How many xenos do I've to kill to achieve, let's say, 1-2 blocks red. 100, 200, >500??? Is there an amount/block?

I do a lot of Xeno-slaying in Kepler, they all fly Hawks there. On an average run I kill either 24 or 32 Xenos (they always seem to come in 8-ship waves) before heading back to unload. I check my reps and typically I've risen about 1/4 bar with groups with antipathy towards the Xenos. The Corsairs haven't budged at all. The Zoners and Synth Foods go down a little, but I just bribe them back up when I need to.

It takes a while and you need a lot of patience but it's better and cheaper than trying to bribe EVERYONE or getting yourself into trouble with legal forces.

Oh, and on a side note... if you go to Kepler to kill Xenos, be careful of any missions you accept against them. Many of them require you to go into the grey clouds, and the clouds cause radiation damage and eat up a great portion of your rewards in nanobots and repairs. Not worth it.

So, it'll be about a 100 xenos-kills a bar.

Deduction leads us to 3-400 xenons I've to kill!

Leaves one more question: When does a kill belong to you? Sometimes you're getting a helping hand from some bountyhunter or navy or so.

When do you get all the credits for the kill?
Do "partial" kills exist too?
Is one hit enough?
Do you have too shoot the final hit yourself?

Post Fri Apr 11, 2003 3:54 pm

From my experience you get credit only if you make the killing blow, but I could be wrong.

So, let's say you have chased an opponent for quiet some time and you have him eventualy on his virtual knees. Another fighter comes in to "help", fires a single shot and the opponent blows up. For all your work, you've scored 0, zero, nada, null.

Other way around though...

I'm already struggling with this question since the "wc-p" days.

Who gets the kill?

Post Fri Apr 11, 2003 4:15 pm

Dunno, maybe I'll try some experimenting on Elite a little later tonight. You're more than welcome to join in if you play there.

Post Fri Apr 11, 2003 4:41 pm

I'dd love to, if I had the time.

With the current play rate, I think I need 2 more months to finish the SP My friend did the whole game in just 2 days. 48 hours non stop, that is...

I read here a lot of things that sound or look great, but I already know I'm never going to have the time to check them out. Tracking the forum, that I can do at work, playing the game however...

Though, the first thing I'm going to check, is that "who gets the kill" question. I really want to know!

I'm pretty sure that the final shot gets the kill, no matter the circumstances.

Could be.

But when 's the "last" shot? ))

Probably it's the shot when your lock rectangle dissappears. But after that, your opponent may fly around for another 1 to 5 seconds before exploding. If you hit him during that period, does it count too?

X-Wing vs TIE Fighter solved this issue very neatly. If you were chasing a fighter and tearing its shields and armor apart, but a wingman swooped in and finished it off, you still got the kill, whereas if you landed the last blow on a target that was almost destroyed by an AI ship, you got an "assist".

That's how it should be

But I don't think it works that way in Freelancer...
