Mission 11

well, i've blown away the sattelite, and now i have to destroy all enemy ships nearby the alaska jump hole. my problem is, there is always one whom i cannot kill, he keeps flying in that minefield, i got 2 lugers, 2 scramblers, a sweeper, a slingshot, 1 starkiller torpedo launcher and a drill mine.... and still this dude keeps on flying, i've been able to get his shield (blue indicator) almost to the minimum, but he keeps generating fast as hell and those mines dont seem to bother him. I've replayed this mission about 20 times, but alas, always untill the jump hole to alaska there is one that remains....
Please can anybody help?
Thnx in advance

That's funny....how far did you chase did guy?

In my experience, the NPC blew up most of the bad guys before I did, then Juni tells me to get into the jumpgate..

Hit your enemy when they are down
Hit your enemy when they surrender
Hit your enemy when they can't fight no more

I've been most unlucky in t his mission. Can you folks outline the tactics you used? I've got an Anubis loaded with Death's hands, max torps and this and that. But I could go back to Osiris and refit.

Would cannonball missiles be better than torps?

I like the rapid fire Death's Hand weapons for ship to ship -- but they are obviously not putting much of a dent in the static targets. I hate to use weapons of different projectile speed, recharge rate and energy efficiency at the same time. I am getting great results ship to ship using a uniform selection: either slow firing high-damage weapons or rapid fire weapons, but not both.

Up to now, when any fighter you can name comes at me, I give him a missile, dodge his fire and then swoop after him to dispatch him with rapid fire guns.

Something else: in a large cloud of fighters I won't use missiles at all, because when there is too much firepower out there, I do NOT usually like to select a particular ship using the R key. That seems to tell the program where I am and key the fighters and other weapon points to shoot me. I merely pick a ship and use the small cross in front of him to blast him with guns.

I wish to hell I could use a joystick.

Incidentally, I verified for my own satisfaction that flying a fighter aircraft such as a WW II Hurricane or Spitfire using a joystick is exactly like flying a real aircraft of the era. I went up in a WW II trainer -- the pilot gave me the stick and I executed some of the maneuvers I had learned on the computer without a hitch -- even did a wingover. He wouldn't let me do the barrel rolls, he did those. What a great thing to do -- put your life at risk flying an airplane made more than 60 years ago!! Try it sometime.

I am not a FL expert, far from it, but what I have found with regard your weapons question is that if I mix it up a lot I do better. Get a weapon for Graviton, a weapon for positron and one for molecular, then load up with the heaviest weapons you can find for the rest. I had, I believe, it was a while ago, the torp and catapult missiles and had to fly around a lot relying on the NPCs to do a lot of the work, my Annubis took some batterings and flying around on cruise was the only way I could avoid running through bots quicker than I could kill things................

If you throw enough mud ..some's gonna stick.

Well, I did as you say you did. I flew about on cruise and let Juni and King do it all, thus surviving through MIssion 11 with all my bots and bats intact. I would have preferred to take on those ships, but my equipment was way outclassed.

Have any of you folks tried a program that puts you in a WW II fighter in a realistic dogfight situation?

The last one I had was called Battle of Britain and was a Lucas product. If there is a newer kind of simulator I'd appreciate knowing about it. Virtually all space opera space ships are based on two concepts: large ships are commanded as though they were submarines and fighters are like WW II Spitfires and Messerschmidts. It is fascinating to go back in virtual space and try these things out behaving as they really did. Then go up in a small airplane and try the tricks you learned!
