That is a result of the typical sound problem. You should also experience missing game sounds. This is a sniplet from the readme.rtf on the CD detailing how to fix this problem:

· Missing Game Sounds
If you experience missing game sounds throughout Freelancer then a different audio codec is probably being used rather that the one provided by Freelancer.

· Please follow these steps if some sounds and speech are still missing after installation:
· Uninstall any 3rd party codec pack or the Nimo Codec pack from your system.
· Uninstall Freelancer.
· Go to the following directory, C:\WINDOWS\system32 and delete the file “l3codecp.acm”. If there happens to be another file named “l3codeca.acm”, delete this too.
· If your system is Windows 98 or ME, open the system.ini file located in your system folder; C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM. Delete ONLY the line that starts with “msacm.l3acm=”. In the case of the Nimo codec pack, this will read “msacm.l3acm=l3codecp.acm”
· If your system is Windows 2000 or XP, open the system registry editor (regedit) from the RUN command window.
· Locate and delete the following key: \HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32\msacm.l3acm
· Load the Freelancer installation CD and locate the REDIST folder. Within the REDIST folder, double click on the file named “WMFADist.exe” and follow on-screen instructions.
· Install Freelancer.

It´s been quite a while ... I´ve tried it exactly the way as you wrote it but it didn´t work !?
(got WinXP and a SoundBlaster Live Value)

If it is a sound prob you are havin then go to the search fourms part and type in sound probs and do a search through all fourms and it should come up with a heading of quick fix for sound prob or something like that.

Just follow the instructions that are there and it will work. It looks like you had the same prob i had and looks like you got the same pc load out as me (well the sound card is the same anyway) and it worked for me.

uninstall, install, bla bla bla ... choosed the codec as #1.
i can hear all sounds but i´m still stuck in that mission with the three ships in front of me ... i see ´em but nothing happens ...

i´ve checked all the other forums but nothing seems 2 help !?!

Check the properties of the codec to see if it is enabled. Windows likes to disable it when you change the priority, just to make things more interesting.

nope ... didn´t work ... i can hear all the sounds (on the station and outside even juni) but when i arrive at those three ships it sais "awaiting mission objective" and nothing happens.

i´ve doublechecked this fraunhofer codec ... it is my primary codec AND it is enabled ... any other ideas ?!?
