does killing ships give you money?

does the simple act of blowing up an enemy ship give you money?

I was on a mission, started to waste the Red Husseins...errr I mean Hessians :-)

and suddenly I'm up a level even though the mission is still incomplete

if so how much?

Nope, no money for killing ships, at liest I don't think so. you more then likely trackered somthing in upping your net worth or somthing like that.

that's weird cos I jumped a level while toasting an enemy, he wasn't the last one and the mission wasn't finished

You get a level upgrade from your Worth in game, think of your Ship as your bank. So anything you tractor in thats hardware adds to your wealth or if you add a more expensive weapon, you spend credits on ship upgrades etc so adding it to your ship means it has a bit more worth.
