Mission 6: Hood, Dublin

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Mission 6: Hood, Dublin

I'll just start by saying that this game is great and I have loved playing it.

I can handle the combat and I like the trading and upgrading, but racing? I have tried for hours, but I can't beat Hovis, in fact I keep clipping the edges of the gates, so I flip all over the place and before I can get myself righted again Hovis wins. How can I get past this STUPID part of this game. Does someone have a saved game just past this part they can mail me, or is there something I can do to get past this?

I'm getting REALLY tired of this @#$%%& part of the plot.

Hey guys, i haven't yet had to do this race thing but i do know a trick i picked up here on these forums (surfing at work). Trying using your engine cut off (z button) and the boost and apparently you fly near cruise speed but don't loose any thrust percentages.

if anyone wants to get in contact with me

Have a Good one

um....no
Personally I love the racing mission and load it up nearly every time I play, but thats just me (Speed demon at heart)

As the race stars, a message pops up explaining rules. Once you close this message immediatly hit cruise (shift+w, you can still pilot in cruise, use the mouse flight mode=space) and as long as you don't have a freighter you should be able to clear the gates fairly easily.
My advice is don't try to hard, especially by cutting to close to the corners. As long as you get a good start at the beggining you can cruise through the center of each race gate. The guy messes up near the end, or slows down (one of the two). If you are having trouble near the very end where the turns get tighter just cut your cruise and go full throttle with thrusters; going 200 instead of 300. Ignore the missles and don't open fire.

I can win this in a dromedary.

Just follow Hovis through the track. Near the end, he will foul up and miss a ring or something, that's you can overtake him and win. Follow a nice curve around the track, need not clip so close to the rings.

If you can't make it, Hovis gives a second chance, and this time he really foul up.
You should win, provided you don't miss a ring yourself.

and by the way, use your cruise engine.

anybody know how can I extract the music?

I feel your frustration; I had a rough time on an earlier mission. This one was easy for me, though. Maybe its your ship? As soon as the rules window closed, I hit SHIFT-W to go into cruise, and SPACE to go into mouse control. I simply guided my ship through the middle of each gate. I didn't screw up once, so I won the first time. He was ahead for the first half of the race, though. I think I used the best ship I could buy at that level - some kind of heavy fighter, but definitely NOT a Rhino or freighter (although they might work too, who knows).

its a pretty easy mission , i dont understand why you people have it so hard..

i took the race easy, running a wide curve into each of the rings and not missing, and just basically evaded the missles in the end

Here is my my 2 cents.. worth of info..

When you start hit the cruise speed and change to pilot view..
Easier to navigate if you ask me.

Good luck..

As the others said. Hit shift+w immediately. The last 2-3 rings are the hardest so make sure you line up correctly, ie starting the next turn before the hoop. For the second (and 4. and 6...) I think it would be useful to turn off mouseflight if you can see you're going to loose, to make sure you fly completely straight at the start of the second race.

I find that if you can bump him a bit in the first ring you can just keep going. I won in a crusader after 3 tries. Probably even easier in a cavalier or stiletto.

Use your strafe buttons to set yourself up for the best line through the waypoint immediately after the one your entering.
