Weird Nomad Flight Anomaly....

I was fighting Nomads for an hour or two yesterday and noticed this weird occurance. Every so often I would be fighting one and BAM, he would be gone suddenly. It wasn't like he hit cruise or entered a jumphole, I'd just be lining them up and when I'm about to hit the trigger, they disappear.

It didn't happen all that often, but it happened enough that I was wondering if it was a bug or some sort of secret Nomad jump/cloak technology that they have. Anyone else seen this?

no they dont use any cloaking device that i know of, it must be a bug, though i havent seen that happen when i was fighting them.. sounds strange

Only thing I can think of would be a some lag spiking in mp. Never happened to me in sp.

I've never seen that happen either. I haven't had any lag prob's with this game, but I remember Diablo 2 online when it'd freeze for 5 secs and the you'd be dead So I guess it could be that, but I would think that if that were the case you'd have your ass on a platter by the time the lag quit, since the Nomad's can kick some serious ass if you aren't careful...

Yeah I know exactly what you mean. usually happens to me when the nomad ship is low on health. I think it is there version of bugging out. They must have some sort of jump hole generator onboard thier ships or something.

hm... it must be like the mobile fighter-warp-projectors in starlancer. . . only they're quicker. well, try launch a couple of catapult missiles at them when they are belowe half on health, that should clear matters up. . . :p

presently, my world is upside down, so if u do not mind, u'll have to tok to my a$$

Hmmm....

Similar thing happens if you chase a ship that has run from battle. Try it yourself, find a lone ship, attack him to low health, and when he attempts to bail out hit your cruise engines and follow him. After about 5k he'll kill his cruise engines, fly forward a little more and then disappear from the game world...

Maybe what is happening to you is that the nomad gets damaged, and the AI triggers it's little "run away and disappear" sequence. However seeing as nomads don't seem to speak, cruise or run away, the nomad fighter just keeps on fighting and disappears after it has flown around for a 10-20 secs after the AI decided that it SHOULD have run away...

I had that happen yesterday as well when i was getting some nomad energy guns. Right before i could plant the finishing hit on one of the nomads he vanished without a trace. There was a little light effect when it happened. Looked about the same as when a human ship enters a jump hole. So they indeed must have some sort of hyperspace generator on board.

That a human ship disappears after fleeing from a battle never happened to me. Once i followed a guy across the whole system. He tried to escape all the time but never vanished... til i blew him out of the stars that is.

Heh heh, I tend to find the mot satisfying kills are when you blow away a ship that was sitting there charging up it's jump engines.

He's not going ANYWHERE!

Its just probably a silly bug

It's not a bug, it's a feature. What actually happens is that the fighter ventures outside the "combat zone" (spherical entities defined in system .ini files) in which it spawned, and, erh, unspawns.

I usually just tote some cruise disruptors and a pair of firestalkers for that... most satisfying, but costly.
