Pick up <<Highly Perishable>> Luxury Food at Luxury Liner Shetland in Edinburgh ($320). Fly four jump gates away to New York/Manhattan: Edinburgh, Leeds, Magellan, New York. Sell at $1200. With any luck you should still have about 230 left. There, pick up Luxury Consumer Goods for $180, and fly back to Luxury Liner Shetland (sale price $990). You should clear over $409,000 round trip. I jump from level 20 to level 26 in one round trip run.

The most Profitable Trade Run is....
If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

I haven't tried the other trade routes, but I found this as my first one when I got a Humpback:

the one i found after finishing mission 7 in SP that allowed me to get over 3 mill credits, and the one i went back to after finishing SP.. (and assuming you have neutral or friendly rep with at least corsairs + bretonia police/military and maybe bounty hunters also + having the dromedary or humpback)
is to get 275/250 of highly perishable alien organisms at $400/unit from freeport-9 in omicron theta, jump over to cambridge research station and sell for $2000/unit, with about an avg of only 6 units lost during the run)
omicron theta -> omicron gamma -> omega-41 -> omega-5 -> cambridge
you can also skip the gamma by going directly to omega-41 but since that system has the neutron star its best to save your hull by going through gamma and having a better line on the jumphole to omega-5
one way nets you up to $440k max
then dock on over to planet cambridge and pick up gold at $543/unit
and take it to tripoli in omicron gamma, sell for $1529/unit -> nets you about $270k
and ends you up just one system away from freeport-9 to do that run all over again, gets you about $700k round-trip, not a bad run and is not very far either as long as your rep is decent enough which is fairly easy to do with the corsairs

not very long actually, and no trade lanes except for the one in cambridge.. but if your rep is decent enough like mine in that area, i only have hostile toward hessians there and they dont give much a problem, last 3 runs ive made round-trip didnt have any trouble
takes about 5min each way, not too long and gives you credits pretty quickly and the damage you get on your hull from omega-41 is pretty much nonexistant compared to the credit return if you use dromedary with lvl5 guns

When starting off, this is my method of getting my cash reserves up as fast as I know how (using legal means)
When I start, I just kill a few liberty cops/navy until I am "just" neutral with the Rougues, after that it's time to start earning money.
BTW when you are neutral with Rougues, the Outcasts, Xenos & Hackers leave you alone too, so you can sell your shields/guns to fill up & max out the profit.
Seeing as you don't have a "load" of cash at the start, and are stuck in e starflier, I buy Boron on Pittsburgh (120), then go to Sheffield Station (Manchester via Magellan) and sell for 600.
Polymers - Sheffield Station -> LA (Buy a Rhino, forget about weapons)
Boron - LA -> Sheffield Station
Polymers - Sheffield Station -> Mactan Base (buy a Dromedary, forget about weapons) -> LA
Boron - LA -> Sheffield Station (** Buy weapons now, cause Corsairs/Mollys still don't like you yet)
Light Weapons - Sheffield Station -> New London
Luxury food - New London -> LA
etc, etc after that.
Inside of ~3 hours you should have enough to buy any ship you want.

Buying at $167/- per unit
Selling at $600/- per unit
Rhino 80 cargo units
Initial Cargo Investment = $13,360/- (dun worry, this reserve builds up quickly)
Net Profit = $34,640/- per trip
I checked it out. Yup, this trade route is great for beginners. Easily accessible, fast turnaround time, low investment and good returns even with a Rhino. The pirates encountered in this trade route are Lane Hackers/Liberty Rouges (California) and Outcasts (Magellan).
If you do not wish to kill cops, a little Xenos blasting at Detroit Munitions Depot will fix the Liberty Rouges and Outcasts reputation to juz under attack on sight (which is good enuff to keep them off your back when using this trade route).
Thanks to Jaabaa for the hot tip!

Best route once I hit mid level.
Manhattan to New Tokyo: Luxury Consumer Goods
New Tokyo to New London: Engine Components
New London to Manhattan: Luxury Food
Flying a Falcon I make around $150K per cycle. With a Humpback or Dromedary: 4 to 5 times that. I can do the run in less than 45 minutes.
I know that there are other routes that are a little quicker, but I do enjoy this route.

The BEST profit is to buy Alien Orgs on Ruiz Base @ 100, & sell on Cali Minor @ 2000, I did that in a dromedary and only ~10 organisms died enroute.
~500,000 profit !
On the New London->Manhattan route with "Luxury Food", sell it @ Denver for 1360, and buy your luxury consumer goods for new Tokyo there, that way you net 330k on the food run, and the luxury goods are only $80 more expensive to buy.
