Booby Trapped Wreck?

OK, so I find this derelict in the middle of a mine field in the Gamma 41 sector (in MP).
I shoot the wreck, tractor in what it drops, and BOOM!!! Me and my wingman are sucking vacuum.
There was not a ship on the scopes (not even friendly ones, let alone enemy ones)

Is this a weck you only harvest in SP, or is it simply a booby trapped wreckage, just to make you more cautious?

be carefull

some of them wreks are in area with volatile gas.
can take out a small ship in no time at all.

the only thing i can think of that radiation has to be quite strong there.
it happened to me once in omega-11 i think.
i wanted to loot a ship very near to the sun (or neturon star, dont know anymore) and before i realized my armor was at zero and boooom...

A sudden boom?

Either a gas pocket exploded, or a mine did.

Both are very dangerous to medium and lower class ships!

Have had it happen before, but I was sitting relatively still when I tractored, but still drifted to close to a mine, not only do they explode within a short range, the mine stays put even after exploding and will nail you again if not moving. this will kill you and anyone near you very quickly.

In a mine field while in MP? This seems to be lag, pure and simple. A number of times I have been flying through a mine field (the one in Tau 23 comes to mind) and spotting the my shields are going down, and then eventually my armour. I don't hear or see any mine explosions, but there aren't any other enemies around.

Before you wonder, the radiation in the system was weak to pathetic on the ship I was running (a Humpback or possibly Falcon) and radiation doesn't effect shields anyway. It only damages the hull and your equipment.

Funnily enough, this happened because I was stupid enough to approach the Bounty Hunter wreck there, which is pretty near an Outcast base and in a minefield. Perhaps I should have paid the Outcasts off before approaching it
