I haven't seen definitive info on this subject, but the data in the .ini files seems to suggest that the advantage or disadvantage amounts to a 20% decrease or increase in the damage taken by the shield, depending on the type of weapon being used against it. If this is true, and it seems likely it is, it would have to be an extremely weak weapon that did "virtually no damage" because of a disadvantage with a certain type of shield.

Right Crash, I'd be surprised if "no damage" is for real, since most everyone's shields get fried when one fires at them, eh? Nothing like reality, is there, hehe. Although in truth I use a mix, even if heavy on lasers. But then again, everyone but everyone hits through my shield, which would make no sense if "no damage" is for real since surely some of them have only the weapons my shield is best against.

Does anyone know a way to switch shields in flight? I have only found a way to switch them while in a base. The "Inventory" tab won't let one switch in flight.

Well, in keeping with the "reality" you mention: climbing out of your cockpit into the vacuum of space, pulling the replacement equipment out of your hold, unbolting the current item, bolting on the replacement, stowing the replaced item back in your hold, and finally climbing back into your cockpit, all while possibly coming under hostile fire, is maybe, just maybe, not something that is encouraged. In short, no, you have to dock before you can change your mounted equipment.

Hmmm here construction machinery would come in handy,...:p

Anyway,.. can the comodities you buy actually be used by/for yourself?

No, it's not useful for anything but trade. However, you they could have made something like a drone robot that could do in-flight equipment switches, or even make repairs (saving you from consuming nanobots), but it would take some time, so you wouldn't want to attempt it in dangerous areas.

Isn't there a weapon that does good damage against ALL shield types?

I mean i like the fact you actually have to think about who you will face, and that you have to plain every next step you make,...

But is there a weapon that kills all?

My guess would be Nomad Weapons.....Or the other class 10s that you salvage maybe?

Or then there is the unhappy answer.....No.

According to the .ini files, all class-10 guns, including Nomad guns, do not have a projectile type (photon, neutron, tachyon, etc.) defined for them. Therefore, they have no particular advantage or disadvantage with certain shield types.

Here's what I Use , 2 Diamond Backs (10), 2 Cerebus (10), 2 Wyrm II (9), and a Wyrm turret .

Just put it this way, I know how to shoot these weapons and dogfight, shields or no shields your dead. They use a lot of power but worth the target practice. The hardest ones to kill so far are outcast (their shields are good) but I can still take 5 on without to much of a problem. Nomads are suppose to be the hardest to fight LOL, thats a joke, the only hard part is when they hit you they hurt, and dont drop batteries or bots, makeing dogfighting them limited valuein the long run. (24 in a row before I had leave to get more batteries and bots) besides for the Nomad Cannons which I dont use, because they are for amateurs that just shoot non stop.

Post Fri Mar 28, 2003 7:51 pm

LOL, where is it written that you're an amateur if you use Nomad guns!? If that's the case, then there are a lot of amateurs that have been playing since the game was released.

Not only do Nomad guns keep you from running out of energy, but they pump out significantly more damage than anything else available. And since you're so fond of the Diamondback and Cerberus, more damage should appeal to you... the being able to shoot forever thing just puts them way over the top.

And, BTW, your loadout has weapons with different projectile speeds, which messes up the accuracy of the targetting indicator for angled shots. Head-on shots will still probably all connect, but shots to the side can result in some of the projectiles missing the target. I recommend you change from Wyrm Type 2 to Salamanca Mk 2 for combining with c10 guns; they have the same projectile speed.
