Mission 03

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Mission 03

What am I doing wrong?. I'm in mission 03 where Willard RS station is under attack. First I'm ordered to take out the gunships, of which I can just manage to destroy only one of them, then I'm ordered to intercept the bombers. By this time I'm out of shield batteries and on the verge of death. The enemy always takes me out.

I'm flying a Defender HF fitted with class 3 plasma weapons and a class 3 shield. These seem to be the best weapons I'm allowed to purchase at my level.

Any hints on how best to succeed in this mission?

Always move! never stay steady on some guys tail if he's moving too slow, you'll be easy pickings for the bigger ships. Prolific use of your afterburner is also good. If youre getting hit alot, just boost through a few quick manuvers. That will usually shake them off and give you a little space to breathe. One possible strat: try to hover around the cruisers that come with you, maybe their big guns will add a little fire support?

Peace

Yes, i've decided that you need to constantly use the afterburner in order to survive any battle. Keep it held down while flying straight, and tap it on and off sporadically while turning. It will help you survive a lot longer.

My heavy thrusters get a lot of use. Fighting without them is not much fun at all really. I also use "B" to tractor in any loot that may be in the vicinity hoping to score a few shield bats.

I was thinking that I was failing this mission because I didn't have torpedos fitted to my Defender. I haven't found any that I'm allowed to buy. Looks like the main problem is my piloting skills just plain suck.

The first 2 levels were a breeze and level 4 "private" missions are in my league. The pay is still lousy though. A trade run from the Colorado system via the secret wormhole gives me an easy 10 grand. But I'd rather fight than trade.

Knock out a couple fighters first, they go down much easier than the gunboat, then go after Mr. Gunboat. Keep moving/turning, a ship flying a straight line is the easiest thing for them to hit.

Strange, I prefer to go for the gunboats first... at max speed they just about move away from you, so you can conveniently tap afterburner every other few seconds just to keep up -- this will, incidentally, throw off the aim of your pursuers. After whacking the gunboats, the bombers appear, they're pretty easy as they're usually aiming at something else. Usually.

Finally, when they're done, wipe up the fighters. Yes they hurt, but I noticed don't panic straight away when you get that "shields down" warning -- your armor, strangely, holds up much better. When you take one down, afterburn away, run around the field a bit to let your shields go up some points, before engaging the next target.

Well, I tried the mission again but this time I concentrated on keeping myself out of trouble by keeping my distance. I activated my cruise engines and sat back and enjoyed the view of the battle. I thought Juni was going to die as she was taking heavy fire and her armour was almost gone, but those energy weapons just bounced off her. She must have some cool mods on her ship.

When there were only a few pirates left I re-engaged in the battle so I wouldn't look too bad, and I helped mop up. Juni was still impressed with me and thought I had gone beyond the call of duty.

All in all, it was too easy. Thanks all.

destroy the gunboats first and then the bombers. They have alot of firepower and are easy to hit. I think I used some torpedos at them.

I think someone said it's most effective to use mines on the heavy ships. I didn't try, but maybe it will help you ...
