how do you mine?

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

how do you mine?

Do you just shoot at the flying debris and tractor it in or do you do it some other way???
None of the ways i tried to do it in have worked!

Go to a mining spot and shoot the rocks until something turns up. Kind of like asteroids with a bonus. F6 click on the crossed hammer and pick and move to one of the high lighted areas. Start shooting the targetable rocks.

Not a huge miner myself, but have noticed that sometime an ore fragment will pop up quickly when shooting an asteroid, only to be killed by another shot in the salvo. So would I would suggest just using one gun to mine with. Have seen some similiar suggestions in earlier posts.

Any tips on good mining areas? Esp in liberty or even NY would be handy. Probably not worth it later in the game when it is easy to make money.

i know of a good mining field in Bretonia space. Its pretty nice but one i get into it, i shoot at nearby asteroids and nothing highlighted falls off.
So basically i have not had any success yet.
I'll try with one gun and see what i get.
And i will post more exact locations for mining as soon as i find some.
Well there should be some in Tau-29 near freeport 6 right???
Also some mining should exist in Leeds and Dublin system near that station from which you raced that guy during one of the early SP missions.

I think that I was mining Nobium in Leeds in single player. I can't remember for sure though. If it wasn't in Leeds then it was somewhere close to that.

Nobium is nice to sell, especially if you are using a freighter.

Best mining I found is close to mining ships you sometime see on maps. Park next to the ship and shoot flying debris with turret. Get something almost every shot.

You can do pretty well mining gold in Dublin or diamonds in Dresden. It takes a lot of patience, though, and it helps if you're at least neutral with the locals...it can get annoying otherwise.

It's better to burn out than to fade away

Using one gun is key, preferably your lowest level weapon or at least something that does min hull damage. Too much firepower destroys the rock and whatever was inside it.

I've mined every type of thing and, as mentioned, it helps a great deal to be at least neutral with whoever is in the area. Don't waste your time though with alien organizims. They decay rather quickly and by the time you get your second one, the first has expired.

I find that flying into a mining area, coming to a complete stop then switching to the mode that has your ship move with the mouse works great. You can spin in complete 360 degrees and just blast away with your one gun at whatever is floating about. The loot symbol will appear in your lower right hand side whenever you find something, then just tap the "B" key to tractor it in.
