Good Trade Route. But other problems.

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Good Trade Route. But other problems.

Hi there,

I don't want to be a spoiler here but I want to share some of my experience and mebbe get some feedback from others. (no flames pls!)

I find the game universe to be really huge !!! I found the missions tough going & after a while I got bored and started to explore. I have visited places like new tokyo, honshu, shinjiku etc ... the ships for sale there are really cool looking and deadly but alas I couldn't buy them even when I had something like 200,000 credits because didn't progress well into the missions enough to advance to other levels.

In the beginning of the game, money was a big problem !! The missions available were tough going and the pay sucks. But as you advance to other systems pay gets better but missions get tougher and tougher. For example in the tau31 system the average pay for a mission would be abt 8-9000 credits but the cost of replacing expended missles/mines to complete the mission would be abt 7000 credits and sometimes you even make a loss.

I find that on other systems, having 4 guns on you ships is really inadequate to fight on missions as the enemy fighters are really agile, fast and really numerous (8-9 enemy ships). I find that a good agile ship would be the Pirana bounty hunter ship which can be picked up quite cheaply on Planet Leeds.

Loadout on Pirana
=================
3 different missle launchers (150 missles)
1 fast laser cannon (like the scorpion from fighting XENO)
Advance Chaff flares (from tau31 system)
1 drone seeker launcher(for escaping from hordes of enemy)
shield batt/nano

I started looking for profitable trading routes in the bretonia system and found 1 so far.

Pharmaceuticals and Water connection.
===============================
From the Glasglow outpost in the leeds to the holmer outpost in the tau31 system is just 2 jumps.
I found this to be very good trading route. I didn't get jumped by outcast very often mebbe only once every 4-6 trips. So save the game every time you go out.

I would get a chesdale freighter and load up 125 units Pharmaceuticals in glasgow @ $255/unit. Then jump to holmer outpost and unload @ $400/unit
Damage = $31875
Sale = $50,000
Profit = $18,125

Then from homer outpost I would buy water for $30/unit and sell at glasgow for $75/unit.
Damage = $3750
Sale = $9375
Profit = $5625

Total Profit for return trip via glasgow-homer-glasgow = $23,750

I did this for about 10-15 times.

But after that I went back to the missions and got stuck with Racing Hovis in the Dublin system on the Hood Battleship.

I need info or a patch or hack on how to bypass this mission. Anybody can help ??

If you want to explore and level up without having to do the story-based missions, perhaps you should run the FLServer as a LAN server then connect to it via the multiplayer option in Freelancer.

This lets you play however you want without being forced to complete certain missions before progressing anywhere.

You should be able to import your current single player character to your server, but I've never done this and don't know how.

Hope this helps.

don´t use f2 (goto) in the race

suddenly it is a lot easier #

aswell you use far to much missiles, which makes combats exspensiv, I suggest you get get rid of missiles and use guns instead.

Post Mon Mar 24, 2003 6:14 pm

missiles are good, if you have the money. that's the problem, the trade route sucks. Try cambridge/leeds instead, and the money for missiles is no problem any more.

btw ... I didn't manage to run a LAN server on a single machine ... always says it can't connect to the list server. (No, I disabled the internet option )
Did anyone manage to start a multiplayer game on a single PC? How?

I've been using this trade route, for a pretty nice profit...

Detroit munitions(New York)-> Sappuro Station(Hokkaido)-> Curaco(Cortez)

Light arms from Detroit to Sappuro($140 pickup and $770 dropoff, I think)

Then H-Fuel from Sappuro to Curaco($90 pickup and $500+ dropoff)

I take, on average, about $200 in damage, assuming I don't get freaked out and use batteries/nanos. That's just thruster evasion when I get jumped by lane hackers and the like.

Reaper: $200,000,000.
Rockets: $100,000
The look on that pilot's face when you launch a full pod of screamers up his tailpipe: priceless

Actually, engine components(i believe) from Kyushu to Freeport 4 using the jumphole in Leeds to Magellan is a really nice route. Though from Magellen I usually hit New York and pick up something at Manhattan or something. I can't stand running the same routers, just gets annoying for me.

As for combat...WAY too many missles. Missles pretty much suck overall. The only time I've used missles is in the SP campaign to take out large very slow targets, other than that all guns.

Some good ideas on guns is to kill lots of your local criminals, they carry some pretty decent weapons. Gaia's Savior, Dublin Dusters. Look for good damage AND speed and energy rating. Lots of shooting with high damage weapons will drain you fast. Also, if you can find one, a Stunpulse or Adv Stunpulse also works wonders as it kills shields quickly letting you get right to the hull.

Barragers are good fast-tracking fighter smackers.

Missiles...blech. Not worth your money. You'd be better off trying to ram things to death.

Reaper: $200,000,000.
Rockets: $100,000

For the race...when it begins just hit the cruise engines....yes they take a bit to start up, but it's worth it....keep going and use the mouse flight mode while going around the track...that should work...I got it on my first try...

Aw man that trade route sucks ass! I can get 140k profit every trade route from going to there and 140k back!!!! LoL...and that trade route sucks ass compared to other better ones too!!!! AHAHAHAHAHHA!!!! By the way pirana sucks balls!!! Buy a freakin drake at least in new tokyo!!!!!! Man thats sad as hell, and i though i was a noob....maybe not!!! I just made 700k just today!!!

Try Gate/Lane Parts from Trenton (NY) to either Tau-23 (Tau-31 Gate Construction Site in T-23) or Hokkaido (Chugoku Gate Construction Site)... either one of these trade runs can be profitable. I made one run in an Anubis (70 cap cargo) and made something like 150K in a single trip... did that a couple of times until I could afford a 'Humpback' freighter, then did the same one more time -- only bigger -- (more cargo space in the Humpie) and got up to appx. 550K in credits for the one trip! After that I bought some better guns and turrets, etc., and went exploring and trading.

Just passed the 1.1 million mark at level 35 (with no cheating!) and I'm thinking about purchasing a Sabre or Eagle H.F. for grins. Good thing the Outcasts love me, or I'd be getting waxed all over the border systems. Now if I could only get the Corsairs to ease off in Omicron Theta.

I had the same problem with the race until i realised i should be using "Shift-w" instead of F2. That was your engines dont cut out. Once i found that out i won first go.

Unless you're up against, level 10 uber fighters, having a light fighter with only four guns can be okay, *as long as the guns are relatively high level compared to what you're fighting.*

Eventually, I may try to finish the story in a hawk, but that might be tough

Hey thanx for the tip guys, I managed to win holvis and got on with the game. I got to level 13 and bought a cool and deadly Barracuda. Most of you's right abt the missles they really expensive but help you survive longer. I managed to get 2 dragoon's cannon from outcast base in tau 23 couple with my scorpions from fighting XENOS, not bad combination. I think fast refire rate is and decent punch is a factor in this game.

Hokkaido and Sapporo ? I did a mission there and decided on some exploring after that, there's a wreck/hidden jump hole to kyushu somewhere and a pirate base.

As I approached the Pirate Base(tink it's called ainu) I barely survived and nearly got creamed by angry hordes of GC and Blood dragons someting like 20-30 ace hawk fighters kept coming & coming like a bloody hornet's nest. I burned all my 200 missles, nearly all my seeker drones/adv flares/nano/batt. Spent all my earnings and a fortune later replacing those. But I'd say the barracuda good agile heavy fighter with decent amour. Not forgetting shields too.

From now on I'll stick to only 2 missle launchers and no more Hokkaido.
