I can''t use a freighter in combat

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

I can''t use a freighter in combat

I could really use some help with this, I just keep dying whenever I engage the enemy. Right now I need to take on some missions to buy cargo, which I can't complete because I keep dying.

If anyone can help, that would be great

btw, I'm using a humpback

Depends a lot on what cargo ship you are using. I found the Drone agile enough to "dog" fight when I wanted to and I also used the turret view and just pounded anthing that came into range.

If you are using the Humpback...well that's a different story. That thing really does drive like a asteriod draging a ball and chain. Until I got top of line weapons for it I died constantly. The only thing you can do is go to turret view and concentrate on targets at you're rear who have the best shot at you. Also don't forget to strafe left/right. It enables you to avoid a lot of incomming fire when you can't actually manuver.

Don't engage, especially with a Humpback. Run away. Freighters aren't meant for combat, they're meant for hauling cargo. If you get ambushed, do your best to get back on the trade lane and escape. I usually tap "goto" after targeting the disrupted gate, then shoot at any enemy via turret mode. The moment the gate becomes operational again, I tap "dock."

If you're using any other freighter, you'll be maneuverable enough that you can try to dodge for the time it takes for the gate to come back online.

I discovered a neat little trick. If the mission happens to be in an astroid field, then you can just bounce yourself in different directions to face the enemy... It was working for me until the server crashes.

Here's a good trick too...when you set a waypoint and hit the "go to" button you can hit the turret view and not worry about piloting the ship and use your turrets to fend them off...they have to move because they don't want to get hit...then they get further and further away and then you should be free and clear...

docking with tradelanes is also another good idea if you have them available...

Yep, run away. Tradelane is best. Cruise is next best. Then afterburner (get a good one), then normal speed.

Just pick a direction and go. If you can't get to a tradelane, then rely on your guns to save you.

The Humpback turns t-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o slow to be of any real value to carry cargo, unless your KOS enemies are few.

Try the DROMEDARY; it has less protection in the way of armor, shield batteries and nanobots, but I find it far superior to tread into hostile space and fight. Running is good, but frequently doesn't work to well as the hostiles have an inexhaustble supply of cruise killere missiles. The dromedary also carries 275 tones of cargo, as opposed to 250 of the HB. You'll still probably get popped if you bump into 6 or more hostiles fying elite HFs or VHFs.

Isn't that ship sold by the hackers? That wouldn't be good for me, I'm an enemy to them... and I'm not rich enough to rep-hack
