I use 2 Cannons and 2 Blasters.(along with Skyblast B and Tizona del Cid and a Skyblast B turret, mounted on a Sabre) This may be very wrong, but I think that when you have several weaps with different refire rates, it's actually harder for your opponent to evade your fire.
Anyway, you should consider trying it out for yourself, finding out the combination you're most comfortable with, and not listening to what others tell you to do/is best...

After being bored with a cargo full of the best weapons (that is 6 each of the nomad blasters and cannons, and all of the CAP weapons, e.g: the silverfire), and experimenting with them all, i found that using the 'Nomad Energy Cannons'
(847hull dmg + 423shld dmg X3.03rate)and having a Debilitator turret (530shld X 4rate=2120), or any other shield based turret, is the best. And if your that worried about haveing the weapons at diff rates so you have better chance of hitting, just quickly hit a few of the numbers to fire off a couple of your cannons (if quick enough at diff times) and then instantly start firing (hold down, practicly no energy drain )..you then have the strongest weapons in game, not all firing at once, but constently being fired at the most desired or least liked target of your choice.
*BTW- I have had the most fun with the Slave1, they may get the shield, but they will have a hard time with the 15000 hit points, and with the extra turret their shields dont last long either, not mentioning the great handling and speed (and 300 cargo) But if you do get it, it will kinda ruin it unless you are already maxed out and have nowhere else to go.

you need to be lv38 to collect nomad weapons
i don't like them for one reason, little purple rays, they look bad.
Now the SILVERFIRE and PROMETHUS look great and are.

As far as the way the projectiles/beams/whatever look...

What's more important? Aesthetics? Or dishing out so much damage so quickly that your target doesn't even have time to wet himself before he's vaporized?

I tend to think the latter.

Live by chance - love by choice -kill by profession.

I'd rather have the power-eaters, myself...forces a little bit of thinking in combat beyond "spray-and-pray".

Reaper: $200,000,000.
Rockets: $100,000
The look on that pilot's face when you launch a full pod of screamers up his tailpipe: priceless
