singleplayer freelancer = stargate series

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Well... it's true that FL uses a lot of highly S/F-typical stuff.
But I think those parallels are coincidental - or at least rather based in the use of the genre's 'general vocabulary'.

I mean how else would one get to a different star system if not with a jumpgate? The only other valid option would be a "jump engine" inside the ships, and then someone would go call it warp drive and say "hey FL is just like Star Trek".

Or take "glowing baddies". Well, let's say they don't glow. A meek, unglowing human would look terribly boring as an enemy, don't ya think? And afaik, the nomad-infested humans never use any real "powers" during the SP story. Basically all they do is glow, pretty lame compared to the stuff the right Goa'ould can offer you.

Put spoilers in the correct forum please!

Stuff that reminds me of other Sci-Fi-TV shows:

Babylon 5: Governments secretly cooperating with ancient alien race and using their technology (Earth Alliance), aliens taking over leaders (Drahk keeper parasites controlling the Centauri) , the Rheinland cruisers remind me a bit of EA Omega Class Destroyers

Earth: Final Conflict: Nomad Battleships are organic and translucent, like those of the Taelons

Cowboy Bebop: The trade lanes remind me of the interplanetary gateways

SG1 would actually be the last thing to come to my mind when thinking about FL...
