How fo I join a faction?

In the multiplayer game you start off as a navy ship. ie. Your navy rep is full and flashes yellow and other players see you as being navy.

With a bit or work, i can loose my navy staus by attacking the navy and paying off rouges and the like.

but no matter how hard I try or how many missions I do for them, I cannot 'join' any of the other factions. I can get my rep up to full with them, but it never flashes yellow and I remain neutral to other players.

Any one got any ideas?

You're a freelancer ...

If you become part of a faction, you are no longer a freelancer. I think that's the most logically way of putting it. Your faction ratings will always have the potential to totally reverse.
