California Sun Different?

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

California Sun Different?

Okay, you guys will probably think I'm nuts...and that's okay. LOL. I've thoroughly explored the New York system and the Colorado system. Each time, I find some strange satisfaction in flying somewhat close to the sun so that I get the sparks off my hull, etc. Well...now I'm exploring the California system. The sun is brighter, but a medium white just like in New York. HOWEVER, I CANNOT get close to the thing without blowing up. The threshold is like night and day. Basically, you can be just fine, and just under 10 K away from it you immediately blow up upon hearing the Warning (as in even going 1 M/S). Is there a reason for this?

Another thing I noticed. There appears to be a strange halo effect around this sun. It looks almost like a planet only it's not there - I thought of this because I heard the mention of a shadow planet somewhere and was wondering if this is somehow it.

Anyways, if it's part of the SP plot (just getting to Mission 3), please don't give me the details, but I was wondering if there's any reason for this or if it's just something random I noticed. LOL. Thanks.

Uhhh Thats the stars corona yeah youll blow up quick there even with a lvl 10 ship. Best bet is to stay outta the Shadowy area around the stars being is thats really radioactive and extremly hot I imagine.

Must be. The only thing I don't understand is why it's so different from the others. The other two stars I've seen have a lot of leeway (ie. you'll start to burn up but have ample time to turn around...whereas this one it's instantaneous). While they've all got a glare effect around them, they aren't quite as bright and don't have that really apparent effect around them that Cali's has. But the readings are similar. Hmmmm. Anyways, thanks for the reply.

Wait till you see the neutron star in omega 41

Its prolly a bug. I cant think of why that star would be any different in the ways your describing them to be, and the situations your in when you die.
