There was a rocket?!

I won it the first time in a Crusader. At the beginning I was like "ya know, I don't think it's possible to race any better than this, so some ex machina event had better give me a chance".

Then I missed what happens to Horvis, but I heard him swearing. Then I saw these weapons platforms on the scanner and was like 'Huh? what the...", and then Horvis said "Give 'em something to think about boys..." and I was like "Think about what I don't understand...?". And then I won.

So, in conclusion, my zen-like state of dumbness helped me win.

Congratulations on doing it in a freighter though. Moooo.

That must be the hardest mission in the game so far; I just spent like 45 minutes retrying it over and over until I got it right.

It doesn't help that there seems to be no way to skip the animation sequences, so I have to listen to Hogis repeat the rules each time I fail twice.

Things I noticed that might be useful to anyone else attempting this mission:

- If you bump Hogis near the beginning, he'll say "Watch it!" but he will fall behind.
- As soon as the race begins, hit Shift+W to engage cruise engines.
- Make sure to steer properly into every gate; if you miss even one gate, you probably won't be able to recover. Some gates require tricky turning.
- Load up on a lot of Countermeasure Flares before the race, and use them freely whenever you hear "Incoming Missile", which happens in the latter half of the race. I think those are Cruise Disruptor missiles (not sure, never actually got hit by it).

I had no clue what happened in that race. I started and didn't look at the keyboard, so I was hitting Caps Lock + W instead of SHIFT. When I realized it, I corrected my probem but I was behind. He never slowed down until the end, when with like three gates left, he veered out away from the course. I heard an explosion and his yelling in disgust. I went through the gate, won, and THEN I started getting bombarded with cruise disruptors. It was weird and happened so fast I don't even know what happened. But I won, so I didn't question it.

I've managed the race the first time around. Was no big deal and i didn't read any of the "can't win the race" threads. Cut the corners and you've won. It's simple as that, at least with the Crusader i was using at that time.

If you guys can't beat that race the first time either you stink at steering your ship, or you're playing a different game than I was. If winning the race is hard for you I'm not sure you'll ever beat the missions that are meant to be hard.

There seems to be a bug in the game. My cruise engines keep on cutting out, and no one is firing missiles at me!

Same here, the engines just turn off and its a instant defeat.

Make sure your not hitting the "S" key. This will take you out of cruise.

I also had no problem winning the first time mostly because I've played racing games before and just keep swerving hoping he would miss a gate

I don't know why I thought of it, but this was the problem. I always activate my cruise engines by hitting F2. So this time I used Shift-W and the race was cake.

For those who want a challenge, go ahead and try and win the race by hitting F2. Good luck.

I just hit cruise and flew through all the rings and won, I didnt find it a problem. I dunno what the problem is
