CGI screens showing stuff not in game?

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

CGI screens showing stuff not in game?

Was looking at the following URL here on Lancers Reactor:

http://www.lancersreactor.com/t/art/thu ... ?dir=flcgi

Partway down there's some CGI showing Coalition ships fighting Nomads and Nomads blowing away stars and planets. My question is, where is this from? How come it isn't in the game I bought? I'm hoping this isn't some ridiculous attempt to cut a game in half and sell the other part as a sequel or expansion.

As far as I know, the shots are from the original intro movie that started floating around the net at least a year ago, if not two. LancersReactor.com has it for download (check "Freelancer intro" dated back in 2001 I think, around 50MB for the large size download).

The intro itself isn't bad, except the audio quality is rather poor and the music kinda sucky. It probably shows what they were thinking of doing with the game back before all the problems started, and they cut some of the features off.

Apparently, they thought that Earth getting blown up was too harsh or restrictive.

Well, you know, since 9/11, it's no longer appropriate to depict explosions in video games.

I had never seen the old video clips... the shipping ones don't mention the Nomads at all. They might have been cut out of the movie because they didn't want to spoil the surprise. Or maybe they just thought those parts of the movie looked ugly.

That should be Starlancer's ending...

For the most part, I think no features were taken away from freelancer with the second half of the video. In my oppinion, the cut it so that they could make a "return to Sol" expansion.

Or perhaps a third installment. Maybe the Coalition makes its way to Sirius using a newly discovered jump hole in SOL, bringing with it another war. Only this time, the Siriussians (shut up) gain the upper hand, forcing the Coalition back into SOL. Then we can retake SOL.

Just my thoughts. I'd like to see that happen. I'd buy it and play it. And love it.

Or maybe the nomads make a comeback by overtaking the coalition and invading sirius... again. Then they blow up the sun, giving us a sad ending...

Ouoo. Imagine that for Freelancer II... two sectors, perhaps two plots (Sirius and Coalition)... twice the fun. =)

I would so go for that.
