I'm just wondering how do you guys pay for this site i mean it has to cost quite a bit cause of how big it is?
We have fans of the Lancers series to thank . That and a lot of personal time and effort put forth by individuals that care about the content of this site.
Money wise....well let's just say indeed it does cost a lot to host this site and the bandwidth it uses. It's no real secret who is hosting (never really was). We like it the way things are now and try not to thrust anyone into the limelight per their personal wishes. Respectfully we can all live with that.
Suffice to say the Lancers Reactor and it's presense on the web is enjoyed by most and the community pays for it by their participation in making this site what it is.

Obviously some cannot read, or are trying to make a stab.
Either way, new people don't register or lurk to only post a comment about a host... more like a "regular" hiding behind a new name for some strange reason.
What do you fear?
Pathetic is the way I would describe it, but I've always been outspoken in what i think.

Erm, it was - and here it is again...
We don't pay anything
However, Stinger already clarified why we don't go around screaming it out to whomever who asks - because they have requested it wasn't. We respect that request, and we would ask you to also respect the request.
To change things, there is a donation button on the main page. Feel free to use it.

Don't quote stuff out of context, try reading for once instead!
Basically I was referring to the fact that if you have a problem with the host, then the way to get it changed is to donate so that it pays for the site. I didn't expect to have to spell it out though... sorry.
Yes, we do have a generous host, however we also have to pay for certain things ourselves. Like additional hardware for the server, additional software and of course the domain and such.

Does TLR's host have any rules against supporting an open source project or using open source software such as Media Wiki?
How much would it cost to switch to a different host if your current host doesn't allow for such use of open source software, and whats the rough difference between the funds available (e.g. by donations) and the cost of equivalent hosting?
If your current host wishes to remain nameless then so be it. Point being I don't really expect “them” to support a project like Openlancer and full support from TLR is very important to that project's success. By openly supporting Openlancer its inevitable that more open source projects will spring up either based on OL's engine, the RF GDK, or some other open source GDK (game development kit). While the RF GDK does promote the use of the .NET framework, in all likelihood Openlancer will be ported to Linux, needless to say what reaction that will have.
I see free open community open source game development as critical to countering the stagnation of the game industry, critical to countering of the corporate greed which has caused that stagnation, and to a lesser extent, critical to the growth of the Linux OS platform. For TLR to become a haven for open source game design, development, and distribution would run contrary to your host's “demonstrated corporate values” and possibly threaten TLR's hosting. I don't want to see TLR lose its hosting, but at the same time I think its important for the community to know whether or not that is a major concern for the TLR management.
If it is a concern then perhaps a community decision should be made on whether or not TLR should pursue supporting free open source games. If a choice were made in favor of it then perhaps TLR and Openlancer could work together to “trumpet” each other's accomplishments to get mass media attention and hopefully donations and possibly advertising revenue. If a choice were made against it then Openlancer needs to move, rapidly, to develop its own project website. However if it is not a concern either because your current host doesn't care or other hosting is available then, well, I still want to know if and when TLR can add new resources for open community projects.
Regardless of the reasons if TLR is to increase support for open community open source projects then a community wiki (e.g. MediaWiki), a source code repository (e.g. Subversion), and a digital asset repository (custom?) would be critical to all such projects. Source Forge lacks two of those services, free hosting doesn't offer any of the three, and I can't find a free digital asset management server (DAM server).
I cannot speak for anyone else, specifically not the Openlancer Project or the Haven Enterprise clan or the Haven server community, but I'm sure popular support is available for moving to supporting free open community open source projects. Such support could bring in donations and ad revenue from “pay per click” services to support TLR regardless of what happens with its hosting. I'll continue to support and contribute to TLR regardless but I generally dislike your current host to put it mildly so I refuse to donate funds as it may or may not some how save them money.

That's pretty freakin ridiculous though. One, why would anyone have a problem with the host? I love Microsoft. And two, if someone were already getting free hosting from one of the richest men in the world, who in their right mind would ever donate a penny?
