Sub-forums

Wouldn't it make browsing easier if you add subforums?
I'll illustrate:

On teh main forum page you get:
TLR Forum
--- General
--- Freelancer General
--- Freelancer Editing
--- Freelancer MOD Forums
--- Starlancer Forums
--- Dungeon Siege Forums

these link to their own forum page:
General
--- Welcome to The Lancers Reactor
--- Off Topic
--- Any Topic Amazing Stories
--- Site Suggestions & Feedback

Freelancer General
--- Freelancer Discussion
--- Freelancer Multiplayer Forum
--- Freelancer Fan Fiction
--- Freelancer Clan Forum
--- Freelancer Technical Issues
--- Freelancer Server Forum
--- Freelancer Spoiler Forum

Freelancer Editing
--- Freelancer General Editing Forum
--- Freelancer Modding for Beginners Forum
--- Freelancer Editing Tutorial Forum
--- Freelancer Editing Utilities Forum
--- Freelancer 3D Modeling and Texturing Forum
--- Freelancer MOD Announcement Forum
--- Freelancer Using MODs Help Forum
--- Help Wanted/Available Section

And for the others the same.

This cleans up the front forum page and makes the search a bit easier.

I think with the expanding of TLR's interrest in new games and the addition of forums for these games, this might be a thing to concider.

I think it will be done like that with the new forums....though I might be wrong.
It wont make much sense changeing the layout now, because we will be getting new forums in anyway. So lets just wait till that then.

Damnit, I did it again. Stupid button!

New forums? When is this gonna happen?
Anyway, the most important question would be why? Not that change is bad, cause this forum has it's limitations, but the unique style of these forums were always a nice change from the rest.

I think the why has already been discussed....but if you want a proper answer you'll probably be best off asking Eraser or Bp

as for when...as soon as possible I guess.

I'll try and answer what is coming in the way of new Forums...
Because it's a good question and when the new software is installed we should have better Forums and more control over them...

bargib had planned on updating the forum software...
He tested a newer version of the same software...
The last version he tested wasn't up to his standards so he didn't change the software...
The author is working on improving it so hopefully the next version
will be good enough to update the software in use now because the
next version should add allot more options and features...

More options is good

I have to disagree. More options is not always an improvement. Ever hear of the theory "keep it simple stupid?" Half the time posters doen't utilize the features already resident here, the other half of the time the refuse to use them (like unchecking the signature box everytime they post).

Having a hierachial forum isn't an original idea either...this was proposed years ago and was shot down due to the complications involved with existing coding (that or simply lack of time to create it). I still think that is a good idea, but we have to be careful what we wish for.

Just because every other forum has this or that feature doesn't mean they are better. It's what makes our forums unique. The last thing I'd want to see here is another "cookie cutter" forum. (big yawn)

Ah yes, the 'I dont know how i did it, but it worked' paradox.
Personally, i agree with sycho here, its easier to just wait for the new forum code to come in, by the time we actually manage to adapt this code to work with sub-forums, the new code would already be out.
