An Idea forum/thread/poll for ideas for TLR

An invite only forum CANNOT be for people over a certain rank. If a 40 year old has a maturity level of a 4 year old then they do not deserve to talk about polictics. Thats why i feel there should be an invite. I am pointing at this directly, as i do, in someway agree with sw. A lot of offence can be caused by religious discussion which is something i have been thinking about. Politics is something we all have a view on and stupid remarks by the immature few would spoil a healthy discussion between people who do want to discuss one of the most important factors of the world.

The community would not split between "vets" and "newbs" because it wouldn't stop people from posting in OT because discussion is still found there. I know i wouldn't stop. Newbs have good stuff to say also. I do believe that it would keep a lot of the "vets" here at TLR as it would be a place where all those that don't post stupidity will have access to. I don't think taw would have left if we had an invite place where the mature forum members could discuss politics and such. Although i don't know what his reasons for leaving were so this is only what i think.

But this is supposed to be a family oriented site which includes adults and children in one envelope. That's what stopped me, in the end, from thinking that it was such a good idea.

I am assuming that the presumption is that a family site has nothing on it that requires some form of specialized access. I.e., this is why DS is here but Halo is not (because of ratings... I am speculating).

So I guess that also means that a family oriented site will go up to Teen level rated games but not higher

I am asking because I don't know the answer.

Yeah, well, as I have mentioned before, I agree that the changes to this site will be a turn for the worse. However, no moderators have acknoweleged that, and persist on telling us (effectivly) "It's going to be for the better, sit down, shut up, and wait". There are people in this forum which have have valuable opinions who are simply NOT being listened to. Baked and Eraser keep an ear out, sure, but are there any (visible, not "planned" ) changes that have been made to the site which people have totally (or mostly) agreed with ? I'll let you decide.

And before Chips jumps on me for "Misleading" or "Untrue" statements in this post, I'm not trying to mislead anyone.

Neo, Ok, I can see your point, but what else can they do?
If they just leave the site like it is now, it will die.
Do you have any suggestions?
I dont think anyone can really know if this change will work or not, we'll just have to wait and see

Upgrade to a newer type of forum, like Invision or PHPBB forum. Better security, stable, constantly improved. (Both are free, AFAIK)

I hope this isn't considered gravedigging. Anyway, I'd second Shodan's suggestion to move to another forum software, since that could make our lives easier with features like:

- better search capabilities
- bookmarks for threads
- ignoring certain users (spam)
- enhanced profiles
- avatars with moderator-defined sizes, for the sig enthusiasts

We are upgrading to new forums, we are just currently waiting for the new software. We dont know yet when we will get it, so just a little patience please

Better Security woukd be good and best of all a BETTER serch engine!

when serching on a small topic like texas. it comes up with some foruoms that dont even have the word "texas" in them!

It will look different and it will have a lot more functions, I'm not sure exactly what, Bp or Eraser will be able to tell you that, what I do know is that it will include pm's and maybe avatars, I think there is a thread about the new forums in this forum, if you display topics from more days you should see it
