The mod archive is a trainwreck...

When I want to search through the various freelancer mods, I have to sort through a billion filenames that don't give much indication to what they modify.(specifically, im looking for one that tweaks the universe for playability.. and not one of these massive overhauls which mixes starwars/starwreck/babylon5 in one place)

It would be great if the webmaster could categorize them neatly.. it would probably help the mod community out some too.

Categorize the submitted mods? Great idea, but how would YOU do it? By name? By author? By date? By size? By popularity? By something not mentioned here?

See the dilema? We're always open to new ideas, but it helps to bring some details to the bargaining table.

Ummmmmm. Excuse me but, wouldn't a Mod Registry forum basically take care of this problem?

I know. No cross posting allowed but, in this forum, there is discussion on doing a registry and while the issues discussed are not exactly what is being talked about here, the idea of organization or how it should be organized may very well be an answer to what is being discussed here.
