I have a proposal... a potentially unpopular proposal, but w

Here you can suggest and discuss changes to the Lancers Reactor website as well as provide feedback on things small or large.

Your proposal is satifactory, you will be assimulated... resistance is futile... join us, and all that rubbish...

I like the idea of a forum where all the new-geeks can gather and make old-boring threads, but the guys here are still the most normal guys I've ever cyber-chatted with... keep it real...

To that, and the topic heading, I say it is a good idea, but probably won't make any difference. N00bs and newbies will still post in the wrong forums having not "seen" the other.

I don't have a problem with most of the new posters, but when it comes to topics I enjoy, but have read thoroughly, I do have problems with reading the same thing over and over and over again.

Like I said, I spend more time reading than posting.

"...and the newbies would be missing out on the vast resource more experianced gamers provide."

I could definately live with that. The point of my suggestion was not to simply segregate the two types of users here, but to give people a place to say what they want. I'd like to have a place where I can post the questions I want, regardless of how many times it's been discussed. If I have a technical question or something like that to ask, I'll ask it in the appropriate forum... if I just want to gab with other people who just want to gab about topics YOU guys don't want to see, I'd go to the other forum - if it existed.

Personally, I feel rather repressed and subjugated by the environment here.

The search engine is useless. You try it. Do a search for "best ship" and see how much relevant information you get mixed with however much useless information... and how many hits come up, and how much TIME it'll take you to sort through all of that stuff. It's an avalanche of data, mostly irrelevant. But that more-than-adequate reason aside, if I myself want to say something about that subject or any other of the now taboo subjects, if I am forced to only look in old posts, I certainly can't voice any input.

Is it fair to me that just because you guys have hashed the subject to death that I'm not allowed to have my say - me, or any of the many other users here who'd like to have a say, too?

I've got a forum of my own... small, I'll grant you... but I'd be more than willing to let any of the folks here who DO want to talk about.... well, anything at all, they can come over and have their say. I'm the only moderator there, and unlike here, I've got a less nebulous definition of what spam is. No topics are off limits (unless offensive - no racism, sexism, etc.), and I don't care at all HOW many different threads pop up about "best ships" or whatnot. Be forewarned, it's on VoyForums, and the service isn't what it should be, but at least it's not an opressive environment.

Yeah, I know Juni's not real, but she's got a nice butt anyway.

Larry - this forum isn't an "oppressive environment" at all! Its the first forum (non-work-related) that I've ever really felt comfortable on. I do agree with you completely that people get flamed more than they should with comments like "use the search engine", however it rarely happens and I get the feeling that threads like this might actually make the few who do flame rethink a little before the reply harshly to a newbie.

Maybe a solution would be for the admin not to lock the next "best ship" or "best guns" (or whatever) post that comes along - leave them open, so if someone does do a search for them they can still add their comments? would that help?

I'm also still into the idea of having a "sin bin" methodology...were admin can tag a user up to 3 times for abusing the forums/other users - after that they get banned. But thats just putting added pressure on the admin and the site owner that shouldn't be necessary....we should be grown up enough to solve a thing like this amongst ourselves shouldn't we?

I'm a great believer in communication solves all....I don't think that saying you'll go off and start your own forum will help....its got a "well if you won't play the game by my rules, I'll go off and start my own game, see if i care!" attitude about it.

Well, I'm not going off and starting a new forum, this is just one that I've had for a while that I'm inviting people from here to visit.

Yeah, I know Juni's not real, but she's got a nice butt anyway.

Who are you and why are you reading my quote?

How many moderators are there right now? If there's a bunch already, adding one more couldn't be that bad, could it? Or maybe the existing ones could alternate duty on monitoring the proposed forum. If a post becomes a spam fest or flame war, then it gets locked or deleted or something. But just because many threads of a certain nature have degenerated into such a thing, that doesn't mean all inevitably must. And just because a subject has been much discussed, doesn't mean everything has been covered. There might always be someone just coming to the forums today who's discovered something nobody else here ever thought of/discovered.

Do you think we need more mods? I've got a personal real life issue to deal with, but if people ask me to promote more mods, feel free to nominate some..

That´s funny FF, because I sent Bargib an e-mail where I nominated you

BTW, thanks for the support guys ! And no, I don´t mind Nickless (though I don´t see why anyone would want me as a moderator)

For an example of what I think was a quite friendly best ship thread, look at Sabre vs Titan. Little or no un-politeness there.
