Unreal engine vs Doom 3 engine

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Unreal engine vs Doom 3 engine

I've lately had a chance to see the Unreal 2 engine in action(I bought the game) and to say the least, I'm impressed. The Doom 3 shows alot of promise by seeing the promo videos and by reading reviews. I would like to know what your opinions are. Which shows more promise? Are they equally impressive or unimpressive? If you want, provide links to engine reviews and opinions.

I can't rightly decide yet. From the few screenshots of Doom3 that are floating around I'd have to say I was impressed. However, there are only like three or four shots that show off the game, Unreal 2 on the other hand is out and looks amazing! For now, I put Unreal 2's engine in the lead, at least until more info on Doom 3 is released.

Hmm, I'd go with the Unreal engine, just because i've seen more of it, and there is a lil more data on it , however this is open to change.

I prefer the Doom 3 engine from what I've seen, the Unreal 2 engine looks good but I've seen better use of engines in games like MOHAA

I do like the rag-doll physics... but u can put that in any engine... u just buy it.

From what I've seen of screenies and vidcaps, the Doom 3 engine looks the better of the two. Both are very very good but the Doom engine seems to be able to produce almost life like qualities while Unreal 2 still looks very much computer generated. Still I haven't seen both in the flesh (so to speak), so it is pretty hard to give an informed comparison.

Still it'll be a cold day in hell before my current beast will be able to run either engine with any sort of quality.

Well to be honest Mustang, Unreal 2 ran ok on my GeForce 3 Ti500 but was slower with jaggies(no aa engaged). So I bought a Radeon 9700 Pro, and saw a huge improvement. Still, I can't wait to see the Doom 3 engine in action.

I think there's a matter of art-style, and not graphical capabilities, when comparing stuff you see in Unreal 2 and Doom 3.

That said, the geometry is still really evident in Doom 3, at least in the few screenshots that have been released.

You cant compare the colourful Unreal2 to the gloomy Doom3. Have you guys seen screenshots for DX2? DAMN! Is it just me or does it look a lot like Doom3?? Maybe not as detailed and smooth as Doom3, but close!

I wanna play this soooo bad! Buy me a new comp!

EB, are you referring to Deus Ex 2? If so, it was is/was one of my most favorite games. I've not enjoyed a game more in a long time. I can only assume that Deus Ex 2 is using the Doom 3 engine. You guys better get ready to upgrade to enjoy this gaming engine.
