A cultural question

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Man.. I'm trying to keep this thread civil and then you come in and start jumping my case. Fine, go ahead and close this thread but not before I say... who is killing Palestinians?

Post Mon Feb 10, 2003 6:53 pm

The only reason this thread should be closed is because of your post Spear.

Can't we all just get along? I intended this to be a thread of culture... not politics. I want to learn about other people not debate about whether or not the US is right for its military actions.

gents why dont we continue this on irc where it cant be blocked

MD is right now politics. Spear, I don't agree with you about what you think concerning American politics but I will say this in your defense (you communist hippie ). Vyse, Israel is doing their very best in response to terrorist threats. Don't accuse them of unjustly killing Palestinians. When suicide bombers go off almost every single day in your country, maybe you won't feel so noble and humanitarian about military action to counter those attacks. 9/11 happened just once to America, but Israel faces it daily. I don't dare place criticism against them until I can place myself in their shoes.

As for American arrogance, well I can see how we get billed with that. However, it's only in the more recent years that we've stepped into situations. We joined both WW 1 and WW 2 late in the game after things had been dragged out onto a global scale. We haven't always been itching to step in for others. But we learned from those conflicts that if maybe we'd have stepped in earlier things might not have gotten as bad as they did. We try to avoid having History repeat itself (i.e. where one tyrant launches a war the grabs the whole world).

Just my .02.

Now this is one of those VERY VERY VERY VERY rare posts, where I am deadly serious, and I give my real opinion.

The truth is, I have nothing against my American commrades to the North, rarely do I fight with them, and some of my best friends and from the USA. Sure their foregin tactics are ****, but that is their government, for the most part, the people of the USA; are understanding, interesting and do good things. There are like everywhere else, assholes among them, that is an inevitable fact, however they can generally be avoided.

Now, there is this ONE little thing, that pisses me off about the USA, and its people. okay here it comes ready?

IT ISNT ****ING AMERICA!! AMERICA IS FROM ALASKA TO TIERRA DEL FUEGO! NOT JUST THIS ONE BLOODY CONTRY!

Okay, beyond that, the US is ok

But we need something easier to say. I mean, you have Canada, Mexico, and the United States of America (which obviously actually HAS America in it's name) on the NA continent (god help me if I forgot one, I slept for three hours last night, wee) so it seems rather obvious to me. We could go to "U.S.A.n" but thats kind of stupid.

Post Tue Feb 11, 2003 4:16 am

There's always "the U.S."

AmaZing. This thread should be kept open merely for the fact that Z has astounded us all.

Post Tue Feb 11, 2003 5:39 am

Yeah, but like I said, you can't say "U.S.an"

I have nothing against America, the fact is many ppl despise success. America is the most successfull country in the world, and the most powerfull. Less fortunate countries will always hate you for it.

I get the same problem when I play my space empire building games, being technologicly advanced and economicly powerfull does not mean everybody is going to love you, the only way to keep the peace is through a strong militery presence.

But... at the same time, many of the americans I know are extremely ignorant of what goes on outside their own country, the average american isn't very clued-up when it comes to foreign affairs. I was in a argument with an american the other day, he called me a terrorist supporter becuze he just could not believe that Osama actually worked for the CIA during the Afghan/ Russian war, and that America helped Sadam Husain get into power to over throw the last regime.

In a way America has always created their own enemies.

I actually can't believe this thread lasted as long as it did. It's a fine line between a discussion about culture and politics. At the very least, a short walk from one to the other.

Albeit interesting, it's still against the forum rules. Sorry. Contact Gibby if you have a problem with me clicking...
