Exoskeleton!

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Exoskeleton!

The genesis of Heinlein's Mobile Infantry BattleSuit, StarCraft's Terran Marine, and Battletech's Elementals.

Whoa, that Kazerooni fellow is a prof at my school! Wonder if I can check his exoskeleton out....

Oh, these? I got a couple in the basement. Damn rustbuckets.

Actually, Ripley used some sort of exoskeleton in one of the Alien movies. It provided some great film footage

She used something like this...

Anyone remember that scene ?

Yah, it was that crate lifter.

This just reminded me of something....lemme try to find it.....damn. It was that site with that guy who actually made this large metal frame for the legs and he had this bigass engine to drive them. That was a long time ago and I havent read anything on that project since. Oh well

Did somebody say Halo?

Interesting article. I wonder how could a man hold a refregirator, he'll be crushed by the weight, with or without power arms!

Post Thu Feb 06, 2003 4:20 pm

It something to do with the weight of the fridge being disrubuted through out the skeleton (something like that). Anybody here played the Metal Gear Solid games? Imagine the Ninja's armor, becoming reality.
A fully equiped exoskeleton incorporating the stealth suit which EB posted a while back.....balissimo!

If you think about it Soliders would no longer need to carry a lot of the supplies that they do know as the suit would be able to maintain their body temperature (if the technology was incorporated to it).

Awesome stuff, I'd like to see it in completion. I hate prototypes, so few of them actually make it into production.

That'd be nice, they'd be ****ing expensive tho, and not very conventional, I doubt it will really happen :-/

Exoskeletons will only really be viable when there is a power source so that:
1) It can power the whole thing, and be small.
2) It doesn't generate a lot of noise or heat.
3) It doesn't rely on fuel, I think. Any viable exoskeleton will probably run on just energy. Gasoline powered would be too noisy I think, and would generate a lot of heat. Still a pretty neat concept though.

What about a Seiko Kenitic power source (ya know like the watches) the suit gets energy from when the user moves?

Post Fri Feb 07, 2003 5:36 pm

That kinda defeats the purpose of the exoskeleton though. It has to help the soldier move and lift things, not force him to power it.

Post Fri Feb 07, 2003 5:56 pm

i seriously doubt this will actually happen, i mean our soldiers just started being issued bullet proof vests

Give them a few years, they already have some options for a power source/engine. They listed a few in the article, chemical engine, fuel cell etc. I think they got a good start.
