The cable provider broke into channels and said that a civil emergency had been declared in my county, as well as the three surrounding. Apparently they've found some debris here. They're not saying where or exactly why the emergency has been declared.

Here from Juarez, Chihuahua, i live in the frontier with El Paso, TX and i live 2 or 3 hours of some of the counties in Texas, near Lubbock, here at this moment we don't have any information of someone here saw the Shuttle at the moment of the explosion, if i have some information about someone see the shuttle i inform here. (because the Columbia explodes above 203 000 feet probably someone here or in El Paso see something).

I dunno, maybe now they'll consider moving forward with the next-gen shuttle. I've no idea if it's supposed to have less likelihood of having such problems, but I can only assume it would....

I'm shocked. I couldn't believe it when I heard it. This is truly sad but NASA is strong and will bounce back.

Horrible stuff, my condolences to the families and to the workers at NASA, this must be a terrible time for them.

Maybe this will be the thing that'll push NASA into upgrading the technology of the space shuttle. There are a lot of better and more cost effective designs out there that need funding.

It's a terrible thing, and I feel sorry for the families of the astronauts involved.
I know i will get lots off people against me for saying the next thing, don't get me wrong it is a tragedy, but where's the worlds symphaty for all the inocent people who die in civil wars all across the globe? Nobody cares about all the people that die in countrys nobody has heard of just because it isn't on the news. There is more war going on and people dying every day then all of us know, Civil war in congo where people are dying every day, nobody cares or even knows, but 7 astronauts dead and the world is in shock... The impact of television on the general opinion is kind of sickening in my opinion.

Now remember before you go and flame me, I am sorry for the families of those astronauts and the astronauts, it is a tragedy...

A former teacher of my gave the defintion of news once:

News = number of casualties/distance form your country.

7 people died this time. My condolences to their family. But then, 120.000 people die everyday, some in more tragic and horrible processes I really don't know why these 7 are that special. And you have to admit, the Indian-American woman and the Israely crewman get more airtime than the rest. It really makes me sick to see how the media exploit such things in the name of rating.

@ Natrunner, this isn't propagande (neither left or right). It's more of a statement against the media. For another example, right after the terrorist attack on the wtc, CNN showed footage of celebrating palestines (they first thought the palestines attacked) what they did forget to mention was that it was an archive footage from back in 93 or something. Shows how much you can trust television...
