But with climate change as may be expected by a massive asteroid strike ... presumably a general cooling ... being feathered would be advantageous and, also, being smaller rather than massive ... if the extent of warmbloodedness then isn't as great as in avian warmbloodedness today.
Other factors also had to have experienced change or decline, obviously, to contribute to the die offs.
