this stinks

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

this stinks

My access to many sites on the interweb has been cut by the IT people at work. One of these is this forum. This hurts -I miss you people!

I can only check the forum now while I am home - and then I am not usually just sitting here, you know?

So, I know I don't post often, but I wish I could post more often than I am able to.

Proxies are your friends

'Fraid not wolfster, any proxy avoidance sites will be well locked down by any IT indvidual worth his salt. This is actually one of the few benefits of being in IT and having unlimited active directory access, everything else sucks.

listen to the wise wolf_demon, he is your friend

clearly you aren't doing enough to curry favour with your system support people. we IT folk are always open to bribes and flattery, i suggest you neglect Mrs Topher for a while and start treating your IT staff to the things that they like, then once they've been suitably wined and dined and grovelled to, and accepted you as well not an equal but worthy of a degree of consideration, they might grant you some access. Do you have influence with HR and payroll? get the IT staff a nice payrise for easter. I'm always open to bribery and graft, and so is Musk Rat; it's one of the perks of our job. We also enjoy making people that we don't like, suffer. it's amazing what you can do with an index.dat file and a suitable editor....

Well, I have no influence with HR, nor do I have any influence with the head of IT. I have a few friends in IT who would if they could give me access but it is not likely since they want to keep thier jobs as much as I do.

Bribery is out - the head of the department is a tool and his lackies are securely under his thumb.

I am just stuck with checking when I get home... I'll have to make a new rutine in the evenings

Heh. Believe me, i know how it feels. at the start of last year, my (now Ex-) school got a new batch script that pulled usage data from the IIS server.
I just happened to be the #1 data hog (I think i accounted for something between 26% and 30% of total net-bound traffic).
Not only that, the top two websites on my list were Everything2 (How a text-based site managed to make #1 to this day eludes me), and TLR. Amazingly, Wikipedia was #6 on that list.

If i had to make a reccomendation, i'd suggest using Remote Desktop connection to connect to your home computer (Requires you have XP Pro on your home computer and you know your home WAN IP), then use the remote connection to browse unrestricted. Of course, you would have to seriously cut back on the quality settings on the RDC program as to not create a noticable bandwidth use. Typically, i've found that people don't know what the program is, so the IT operators don't lock it down. I'd say give it a try if you have the resources to do it
