Microsoft''s latest trip across the borders of normal human

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Microsoft''s latest trip across the borders of normal human

Yay. Microsoft have decided to serve a Cease and Desist on the Halogen team, as it turns out, because they had a "Halo RTS" in the works. Except it's for the XBox 360. One would assume, then, that they were worried that having a mod for a rather aging engine outperform something they were pouring millions into developing might be a tad embarrassing.

Oh well, at least I don't have to ***** about them making it Vista-exclusive if they're going for a system (well, entire concept) that isn't designed to handle anything more complicated than Beat-'em-ups.

Halogen team?

Could the reason possibly be due to this:

Seems like a 100% valid reason to do so, for a business point of view anyways. It may be for an older engine, but it's the same game type as your own release upcoming... would it really be wise to have an alternative free mod heading for the same market place as your own title? Different platforms maybe, but people buy those consoles for the game titles on them. If the same (but slightly different) is available elsewhere, why would they buy one?

wow- people really will buy anything with 'Halo' stamped on it huh? i can certainly understand why they fought the mod, they don't want a low-req game that plays smoothly satisfying their potential customers, its much better all around for MS and hardware manufacturers if people have to constantly upgrade to play new games.

Halo is a microsoft/bungie property - under the law any trademark holder who fails to defend his trademark is in jeopardy of losing it. So yes, i feel sympathy for the modders being crushed by big business lawyers, but they knew they were venturing into legal grey areas and did so anyway, this is just a risk that modders have to accept when there's no explicit permission to reuse ideas (like starwars, if i remember correctly george lucas has said he doesn't mind fans making mods stories short movies etc)

Wolfy, the "Yay" in question was intended to be sarcastic.

Yes, Chips, that was exactly the "Halo RTS" I had in mind.

Sorry, just used to threads discussing something is all - hence why I was trying to see from either side why it was being stopped and bothered to look up what it was all about.

Should have realised it was a statement only thread - my fault

Well, it certainly isn't a logical-leap thread. Where did you get the idea I was stifling discussion?
