Nintendo Wii

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Nintendo Wii

First off, let me say that I AM NOT AMMUSED BY THE NAME CHANGE! They could have left the name as the Revolution, and that would have been fine with me. But, me ranting about the new name isn't why I'm making this thread. In reality, I just wanted some opinions about the Wii from you here at TLR. Personally, I think it's going to be a wonderful machine that will change the way we play video games forever. I can't wait to get my hands on one (I'm going to try to get the metallic black) and the good thing is, that I can actually afford one. I don't want a 360 anymore, and there's just no way in hell I'm going to be able to afford a PS3 because the stripped down version of the PS3 will cost $100 more than a premium 360. Now, I'm not really a Nintendo fan, even though I do like Nintendo. Remember, if it wasn't for Nintendo, there probably wouldn't be any video games in the US right now after the 1983 crash. Also, I prefer innovation and fun to raw power, which is why I opted for a DS instead of a PSP. I wanted to get a gamecube after my PS2 broke down, but then I decided to save my money for a new graphics card, and now I'm pondering if I should get the card or a Wii.

Both Sony and Micro$oft focus their next-gen consoles mainly on raw power, which shows in the prices. I'm sure you all remember in November of '05 when the 360 launched in the Core and Premium systems, for $299 and $399. And with Sony's E3 pricing announcement for the PS3, we can expect the cheaper model (the one with the 20gig HDD) to cost $499 and the premium (60gig HDD) for $599. If Sony had kept the price down where people other than the most hardcore of gamers would want to shell out the cash for the system, then there wouldn't have been a doubt in my mind who would have won the next-gen console war. But, it seems to me like more people will buy a Wii than what bought a 360 and (will buy) a PS3 put together.

But there I go again, getting off topic ranting about MS and Sony. Nintendo has said themselves that the Wii will only be about three or four times as powerful as the Gamecube, but with the revolutionary controller and online features that work like the DS Wi-Fi, the Wii is now my console of choice. Not to mention, Sony themselves said that you could buy a 360 and a Wii for the cost of a PS3. The Wii isn't supposed to cost more than $200 US, which will hardly make it more expencive than the DS at launch.

So, I want one, and I know for a fact that some others here at TLR want one too.

So, basically I'm asking who wants one, what your next-gen choice is (if you've made one already) and if you think it'll be able to win the console war with Sony and Micro$oft.

Seeing as how a person who will remain nameless (The Evil Thing) ruined my sig by answering a rhetorical question, I'll just use this as the line and see how long it lasts.

I always found consoles were best suited to playing with many people, getting your mates around - beer, and play. We played on the N64 with Goldeneye and MarioKart 64 as our only games for ... well, until 2004 - and we played it most days.

Now no longer living in a shared house (everyone graduated/got jobs), I just don't seem to find any feeling stirred towards wanting a console. I'd def need to go to a store and try them out, with games, before I could really make a comment.

As for console wars, I'd hope Nintendo win - just because i'm not particularly fond of either Sony or MS.
