Google Desktop Search

I came home tonight to find Google Desktop Search 'indexing' the files on my computer... I didn't download this program. When I mounted an inquisition against my parents they also "didn't download it" (i.e. poor excuse for irresponsible computing). Needless to say, I was a bit concerned, because, as much as I enjoy and use Google's services, having anything scanning my HDD without my authorization is troubling in my paranoid world. So, I gave the program the axe to be safe, and I'll be running a full systems checkup overnight to be safe. The question goes out, does anyone here use Google Desktop Search, and if so, is it worthwhile or does it just take up more space on the toolbar? I have to say, I wouldn't use it even if it were the most magnificant HDD search engine in exsistance, I hardly ever use the default search function as is, but just so I won't be called ignorant, I'd like to hear from the world of TLR on this one.

But isn't Google the saint, when MS and others are the devil!?

I wouldn't trust "Google" if I were you. They are already aiding and abetting the "free speech restrictions" in China by providing a filtered search engine domain that does not allow access to "inflammatory material". Why did they agree? Because they are so greedy that they dropped their professional ethics in order that they could gain access to the online market in China. Anyway, just thought I'd mention it. *Spits in Google's direction and walks off*

Don't forget that it was either Google with some restrictions, or no Google at all. And we both know that the PRC wasn't ever going to budge on the issue.

And that program is evil, it used to allow malicious programs to run, though MS since fixed that in a patch, I still don't trust it.

Also alot of programs from RESPECTABLE companys are starting to add stuff like googles toolbars and things. Maybe you installed something that gave you desktop search.
