Last Sunday...

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Last Sunday...

After work last Sunday, I decided to go see a movie: Hostel. It was one that I was really curious about. More people were there to see that movie that day, then I would have expected. The movie itself, with the exception of one scene, didn't bother me at all. In fact, I thought it was fairly average. The thing that disturbed me the most, was that a couple of people decided to bring CHILDREN to this movie with them. I'm talking ages between 2 and 6. For certain R-rated, I wouldn't have minded. But you don't bring a child to see movie like Hostel. Hostel was already pushing the rating boundary. They had to cut stuff out to keep it from being NC-17. Not just the sex and nudity, but the torture and dismemberment as well. It's a brutal movie to watch. As I said, you don't bring a child to see movie like this. They aren't going to understand, and it's going to scare the hell out of them. It's gory, it's violent, and it's depraved. They even had the kids sit in the FRONT ROW SEATS. I don't have kids of my own. But I would rather shoot myself than to take a child to see a horror movie. This is an example of really, really, bad parenting. Those kids are probably going to be disturbed later in life. After the movie, I talked to the ticketmaster about it. She agreed with me, but apparently, the parents of those kids, were getting pissed. If I was the ticketmaster, I would have told them to go get their money back. I don't mind movies like Hostel being made, since there are people out there, like me, who enjoy them. But bringing a child to something like this just pisses me off to no end. I enjoyed the movie, but the whole situation with those kids never left my mind. It still bothers me.

Yes, I agree. I belive that someone who is mature enough to know what you do and don't do in real life has every right to see a movie like that or even play a video game like God of War. However, you don't let a six year old in to see Hostel (haven't seen this yet, but I heard it was pretty gruesome) and you don't let a six year old play Grand Theft Auto. Of course, if you're six years old and your parents buy you GTA: San Andreas or let you in to see Hostel, then those movies and games are the least of your problems.

If Jack Thompson was complaning about six year olds and under being allowed to see Hostel and play GTA, then I'd be behind him 100%. Six year olds shouldn't be allowed to see those kinds of movies, because as you said, it may disturb them later in life.

Killa: Yes, Hostel is gruesome. I'm not even going to discribe the scene that made ME almost turn away. I don't know what these people are thinking bringing their kids to these movies. I was talking to someone else about it, and we both came to the conclusion that this amounts to a form of child abuse. Those violent images are going to give these kids nightmares. It's criminal. It breaks my heart, to see that parents are willing to subject these kids to a movie like Hostel, because they don't want to leave them at home with a babysitter like they should. I wrote a letter to the theater about the situation. Haven't gotten a response back, and I don't suppose I ever will.

I wouldn't watch that movie if my life depended on it. I won't post more, since I'd get banned for flaming.

Some folks at work went to see it based on hype, and said it was terrible and wasn't worth the money.

I'll be honest, I've seen better horror flicks. Texas Chainsaw Massacre, House of Wax, Wrong Turn, just to name a few. I wouldn't see Hostel again, though. I was just curious about it. It certainly wasn't as good as the critics said it was. Not by a long shot. But it's not as bad as everyone seems to make out to be. This is not a movie for pansies or people with weak stomachs, that's for sure. Again, this movie isn't for everyone.
