Online Surveys

Well since I am 17 and currently unemployed, I did a bit of googling around on "online jobs for 17 year old". One of first things that came up (sponsored links) was the idea of getting paid for taking online surveys that are offered by different marketing companies.

Its not some money, $5-$75 per survey (4-6 surveys from each company a month), but the thing is it does not say that there is a limit to how many companies you register to.

I don’t plan this to be my main job (more like an extra $$ source), but is what they say true?? anyone got any experience in it, anyone tried it??

or anyone got any suggestions for good online or jobs to do at home (with PC) that could be available to 17 year old??

The thing I would do first, is Be Careful. Never give out home address, ect on line. Search to find out if the company IS reputable, in the US it can be helpful to check the BBB Better Business Bureau to see if they have had any complaints against them. Either way, good luck with it.

Eh, good luck. I just don't think I'd ever be willing to do anything like that.

(And again, thanks FD for the siggy help.)

I've been doing UK based surveys for 4 or 5 years now. Some pay in "vouchers" which tend to be things like discounts at high street stores and others pay £2-5 here and there. It all does add up though if you're happy with spending a couple of hours of your spare time a week to fill them in. One particular company paid me in "points", which works a bit like a loyalty card - the points add up on your account and you can exchange them for things like CDs and electrical goods. Of course, you only get about 10-20 points per survey and an iPod would come in at around 15,000 points!! BUT! I've had several CDs/DVDs out of the company - every 100 points you get you can exchange for a £3 amazon voucher. If you keep doing that, after a few months you'll find you have enough to get yourself 2 or 3 full-price DVDs. Quite rewarding really.

However! (there's always a "but" isn't there?!!) **I MUST WARN YOU!** If you intend to do these surveys in your spare time, NEVER give out your most used email address. In fact, get a gmail account and set yourself up a specific email address that is for surveys and surveys only. Most of the survey companies will sell your email address on for profit (even if they say they won't). Be smart and use an email address that you really don't care about. Also, NEVER give out your phone number. These are being sold in the UK at an alarming speed and its becoming increasingly common for most households to receive 2 or 3 marketing calls per day. So much so there are people campaigning for laws against it.

Apart from that, enjoy! It takes a while for it to get going, so don't be disheartened (took me about 6 months before I started reaping benefits) - I wish you the best of luck!
