Holography

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Holography

In my spare time i usually experiment with holography. Unfortunately, i have run out of holographic plates and i cant find any more suppliers in the UK(Postage costs=huge if bought from the states).

So i am trying to locate a UK website from which i can purchase some holographic plates. I am looking for something along the lines of:

Red sensetive
Works with the JD-4 Processing kit
Small 63mm x 63mm size

I am using a small red diode laser(3V).

Edit - No all caps in subject please.

Ask Obi Wan Kenobi, I hear he was a great general in the clone wars...

I wonder if they mean old Ben Kenobi?

@leedude - have you tried ordering them direct from Ilford? I have no experience with holography, but I have ordered large numbers of film direct from Ilford before and a quick web search shows that they also deal in holographic plates. I'd suggest you give their sales team a call on 01565 684000 - they're based in Knutsford so the postage shouldn't sting you.

Alternatively, I suppose if you are really into it you could always give making your own a go.

I'm curious, How does this work?

it is quite complicated but basically:

An ordinary photo doesn't appear 3d, this is primarily because the same image is being fed to both eyes. Also, if you tilt a photograph you cannot see round the objects in it.

A hologram is an image that appears 3d and contains objects that can be seen around. this is due to the fact that every particle in a holographic recording medium contains the same object from its own unique point of view. therefore, the each eye can pick up an individual image depending of which way you are looking at the hologram.

This means that if you were to smash your holographic plate into small pieces, you would still be able to project the full image onto a wall with a laser.

Holograms don't necesarilly refer to a projection of an object in a room(like the doctor in startrek voyager). The ordinary type of hologram is much like a photo, but 3D. The sort of hologram I am trying to create is of a small object such as a key. The equipment required usually involves a laser, an object, a sturdy table, mirrors, a recording medium (plate) and processing chemicals.

you can order them online from InfoGraf as well, but Ilford would have been my first stop, they sell everything for specialist photography.
