England Win The Ashes

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Yep, the 'Poms' have finally won the ashes back. A very good game played by all, I have never so much into Cricket as I have this week, it has been fantastic to watch and see our boys pull it off.

Agreed, they did well. Although the victory itself was a bit of an anticlimax - we won, then the umpires had a 15 minute meeting to decide if the light was low enough to finish, before finally announcing that we had in fact won. Everyone was looking a little bored by the time they decided. I guess that's just cricket though, nothing seems to get done quickly.

They called the thing they won an "urn" though. Urn.....ashes...... - does this dull game harbour a dark secret?

are you telling me that as a patriotic Englishman you don't know what the Ashes are? shame on you!

I thought it was all jolly exciting, esp as compared to Ashes series going way back, when we'd just watch England's openers and middle-order fold under withering Orstraylyhun bowling and co-ordinated fielding, while listening to Richie Benaud stick the verbal knife in.

and if it wasn't the Ashes and Orstraylyuh, we'd be getting slaughtered by the Windies or Pakistan.

so it makes a very pleasant change! wipe the smile of big fat Shane Warne's face for a while anyway.

The Ashes in the Urn are the ashes of the first set of wickets used in the first international game between Australia and England. Hence why England and Australia play every year to win those very same ashes that are stored in the Urn.
