Science Fiction

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Science Fiction

What is your favorite work of science fiction? It can be anything, Movie, book, even computer game.

I personally really enjoy the Honor Harrington series by David Weber.

how broad is your definition of science-fiction?

Post Thu Sep 01, 2005 3:00 pm

When I was a child I always liked the book "A Wrinkle In Time" by Madeleine L'Engle.

Post Thu Sep 01, 2005 3:39 pm

David Weber is a good author, not one of my favorites but good.my favorite scifi series is dickson's Dragonknight stories.really good books;footfall, lucifer's hammer, any of falkenberg's mercenaries or the codominium stories, the original bolo books and spinoffs, the moon is a harsh mistress,protector,ringworld,1632,1633,the spellsinger series or anything by alan dean foster, terry pratchett's discworld stories, the Vorkosigan series, the time machines, lots more that i can't remember right now.

taw:sci-fi is imo any fictional science story with a scientific basis in reality, however tenuous.now there's hard scifi and soft scifi, hard scifi uses well researched and grounded theory blended with fiction to create otherwise unbelievable feats whereas soft scifi can assume anything about technology, even be about a fantasy theme with science being an explanation for dragons, magic etc.

Michael Crichton's books are generally excellent, in my opinion (Sphere, Prey, Andromeda Strain, etc.)

Post Thu Sep 01, 2005 5:24 pm

Oh god, andromeda strain is my favorite book of all time. Absolutly amazing.

Is the movie "Sphere" based on his book? cause i liked that movie. Very good plot it had.

@Love Shark: Thanks, at last someone mentions Gattaca... One of the best ****ing SF movies ever.

@Taw: You watch Neon Genesis: Evangelion? Cool! I have every DVD that can be bought regarding NGE. ^^

MOVIES:

Gattaca
Neon Genesis: Evangelion (DEATH + REBirth is very good, End of Evangelion just shows that Evangelion is something deeper than your ordninary action-movie.)
Star Wars (Don't underestimate the power of Star Wars , it rocks!)
Close Contact (Or whatever it's called, I've only seen it with a Swedish DVD-cover and then it was called "Närkontakt av Tredje Graden " so I don't really know what it's 'actually' called.)

BOOKS:

"Nemesis " by Isaac Asimov
"Chasm City ", "Redemption Ark ", "Diamond Dogs, Turqouise Days ", "Revelation Space " and "Absolution Gap " by Alastair Reynolds
Vatta's War series (Trading in Danger and Moving Target ) by Elizabeth Moon

That's me in a nutshell () cause I only read science fiction.
