Halo, on the silver screen!

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

They are also making a Doom Movie and Farcry movie

If they make a Far Cry movie they'd better cast one of the Baldwin brothers as the lead role...Is it just me or does the main character look exactly like (a slightly angrier) Alec Baldwin

the proposed Doom film has already come in for major criticism as it is just going to be another Resident Evil-type zombie fest, completely missing out of the Hellspawn which after all, was pretty much the point of Doom. a great opportunity wasted.

good job? someone please tell me of a game-to-film which was actually any good? the first 5 minutes of the Wing Commander film were passable, although it went into a terminal decline after that, and Angelina Jolie looked the part as Lara Croft, Mila looked sexy in the Resident Evil film but thats about all.

now you see, Silent Hill imo could make an excellent film project, as could HL2 (or HL1 even) and F.E.A.R. looks set to blur the boundaries even further. In fact it looks so scary I dont think I'll be playing it! it took me 3 months to recover from Ringu...

A veriant of a game to movie that did turn out well, was Final Fantasy. Yes it was off beat, but nicely done. I agree its hard to take a turn or other based game, with veriables and turn it into a movie. Too many differ outcomes for it to really work. But, there is always the hope that they may one day get it right.

My question: Where are Half-Life and Half-Life 2? HL2 was MADE to be a movie.

FF:Spirits Within, outstanding animation, looked gorgeous, but left me cold and unsatisfied. i simplt didnt give a dam what happned to any of them and in terms of plot and execution it was like a bunch of cutscenes strung together. the characters were completely wooden. set-pieces worked well, the first 5 mins were good and I almsot woke up when Aki went to what she thought was a dream world, but apart from those highlights only the stunning tecnhical quality carried the film. Fortunately when the same team made Final Flight of the Osiris for the Animatrix, they injected a lot more life and action, but then that was a short film not a feature.

and y'know, with some decent script-writing, Spirits Within would have been far superior than it was. We see too much of this these days, reliance on effects and technology at the expense of the craft of story-telling.

I thought that movie was decent. Of course, i understood what was happening. Which probably helped

i don't think halo has enough of the metaphorical 'meat' on its bones to make a movie- its basically a really stripped down version of Niven's ringworld, with careful attention paid to not infringing on his intellectual property by using different names for everything.i would much rather see a real ringworld story - books certainly make better movies than video games, even when the execution is poor.

"its basically a really stripped down version of Niven's ringworld"

at last! someone else got it too! I've been banging on about Halo being Ringworld for the past couple of years and all anyone does is say "what-world?"

and ive tried to explain the core explosion and the Pak fleet and the Kzinti and the Tnuctipun etc etc but no-one ever listens. I spent a week trying to show how Kilrathi were actually Kzin but as per it fell on deaf ears...

a Ringworld film? we'd never be so lucky and even if one were done it would be ruined by Hollywood. there was a pc game years ago, and there is q a lively ringworld rpg community - never bothered with that myself, dont do rpg.

Animated or real actors for this one?

Post Thu Aug 25, 2005 10:45 pm

I had a joke with some friends that theyd just mod Halo on PC and make the entire game into a giant scripted cinematic.
Imagine that... stupid hollywood.

I hope it turns out to be a High-res CG like Final fantasy: Advent Children.

As far as I know, they're also making a Prince of Persia and Splinter Cell movie. (Let's just hope they don't suck.)
