modem problems

i know i haven't been active much lately but thats for later. i've been having a lot of trouble with my modem it disconnects frequently and then fails to reconnect the first two or three times after that i'm wondering if i damaged it when i moved or if it's my isp i've had several chats with there tech support (it just failed when i typed tech )
and none of there suggestions helped, it's an AOpen FM56-PLX Controllerless PCI. i've tried virus and spyware scans with no luck, any suggestions

Have you gone through Windows update to update the modems programs? Yes I know there are those that don't trust them, but thier updates have helped me some as well.

We always had the same problem with different hardware and ISP- the only solution was to switch to cable.

You problem may indeed lie with the ISP. now the only way to confirm this is to rule out the possibility of there being a problem with your modem. off the top of my head, i cant really think of a practical idea, unless you have a friend with a dial-up server that you can connect to and see if it times out, otherwise, im stumped.
Practically, however, replacing the modem will immediatley rule out the modem being a problem, leaving the OS, motherboard, drivers, and ISP being the only valid problems, and all but the last can be elimitated by testing, and if none of them are at fault, its either the ISP or your telephone company, which is out of your hands anyway.
