Why the Playstation 2 is a peice of crap.

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Why the Playstation 2 is a peice of crap.

Ok, I couldn't be more ticked off now. For months I was anticipating Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, as I'm sure many of you know. I get it and it works fine for a little while, I spent 55 dollars on the Collecters Edition of SCCT for the PS2. It works fine for a while, then what do I get? "Disc Read Error" after it says it's been reading the disc for five minutes. I tried to go to help sites and they cannot help me at all. They just say that DREs usually fix themselvs. WTF? This happens so much that people have even created an acronym for it? My PS2 hasn't worked for three weeks and I want to play Splinter Cell. I should have just asked for an Xbox instead, but I just had to get the PS2 because I thought it would be cheeper. They say you get what you pay for, but for the most part those who paid $250 dollars for a Playstation 2 when it was reletively new were ripped off. There are four things that the PS2 has over the Xbox, free online play and Metal Gear Solid, Grand Turismo, and Grand Theft Auto. The Xbox has better graphics, better games for the most part, smoother framerate and Halo and soon to be Half-Life 2. The Xbox version of SCCT is clearly better than it's PS2 and GC rivals. The Xbox has better lighting effects, which means that most of the PS2 and GC SCCT in mission pathways were cut. Sure you can backtrack the whole level if you want, but there are loading parts, and if you want to have to go back to an area you just came from you have to load back in again, its rediculous. And if you took out the ability to backtrack through a level, then it felt just like Pandora Tomorrow. Although it's the best looking PS2 game there is right now that I know of, the graphics took an enormous hit when being ported to the PS2. On the Xbox in SCCT, when you grab an NPC you can actually tell he's scared, but the PS2 character models look just slightly better than they did in Pandora Tomorrow. I'm not nocking Splinter Cell, it's a great game but I'm nocking the PS2 down and I hope Sony pays dearly for the mistake they made by releasing the PS2 so soon after the PS1. Now because Micro$oft has established itself as a worthy devoliper of consoles, I will be getting an Xbox 360 when it comes out and say screw the Playstation 3. Also, one thing I am glad Micro$oft is doing that will hurt $ony bad is release Halo 3 the same day as $ony comes out with the PS3. I hope you burn Sony. Just about the only good peice of technology you ever made was my CD player and my radio.

Well, I'm curious, are there any other Sony haters out there? Plese feel free to post your comments regarding the Xbox, Splinter Cell, Sony and the next-gen consoles.

I'd say that your disc is the buggered thing, not the PS2 you're running it on ...

Post Fri May 13, 2005 5:47 pm

You don't say weather it will play any other games, other than the one in question. Have you tried any? Have you looked at the disk in question, in relected light to see if it has a smudge or scratch?Have you checked the optics in the PS2 to see if anything is gotten on it?

Uumm yea theres 2 ways to fix this...(please remeber its guesses not whats happening)

A) Get a new ps2 because the eye reader may have crapped out from a defect in it....

Splinter Cell is just to powerfull for ps2 which i highly dout(but that cop game true crime streets of l.a doesnt work the game is to big for it on the gamecube)

A 8 man team cant defeat a science research center filled with who knows what that have already killed 500 people....

If your biggest gun doesnt work first then drop it and run like heck.....

how about you use an air duster through the tray slot thing

my ps2 wasnt working either with this problem then i did this and it works now

just try it, but make sure your ps2 if off when you do it or it wont work

"If im phased and can walk through stuff, then why am I not falling through the floor?"

I sincerely hope that anyone with a PS2 problem will pay for its remedy themselves and NOT be sponging it off their long-suffering parents?

i know one person who broke 2 PS2s and a PS1, and another who broke 3 PS2s. that, my friends, is why they suck. they are built like crap.

Well from what I can tell the Gamecube is the most well built. They did a test on G4 where Morgan Webb dropped a twenty five pound weight on a PS2, Xbox and GC, the PS2 was just about massacred the first time, then she hit the GC and Xbox with a sledge hammer, they both survived. Then came the "Demon Drop." She went about twenty feet up in the air and dropped the Xbox and GC, the power console for the Xbox actually came off and she couldn't turn it on. The GC is sturdier only because of it's shape. The Xbox is the best current generation console, and when I can find an air duster I will try to see if I can get the lense cleaned out.

I'm on my third or fourth PS2 after many DVD problems with it. The DRE is not uncommon though killa. GTA:SA has caused a hell of a lot of people to buy new PS2's because of DRE's. If you go down that route, i recommend (from various others) that you don't buy the slimline PS2 because it has a tendancy to overheat when you play like 10 hours straight.

Post Sat May 14, 2005 7:59 pm

Ok bret there is a simple way to prevent an overheat with any console, don't play it for ten hours straight. That can't be healthy. Even when I got Splinter Cell and could play it, I would usually play it in about four hour sittings on weekdays and about five hours on weekends. But what my big question is why they can't bring GTA to the Xbox. It would be able to handle San Andreas much better. And Hideyo Kiojima is too much of a panzee to keep the Metal Gear series going, and when the PSone died I can't see why he didn't just swallow his pride and put MGS2 and 3 on the Xbox and PS2. Even though I am Japanese, I just don't understand the culture of video games in Japan. Don't want to have anything to do with the Xbox just because Microsoft is a greedy American company. But the next Splinter Cell game for the next-gen consoles is already in devolipment, but I guarntee that MGS has no plans for future consoles other than remakes of games that are already out. No real "New" game is planed. Besides, with the Game Stop around the place where I live, if your Xbox keeps getting DREs and you bought it there under two years ago, just take yours in, give them fifteen dollars and they will get you another one. It may not be new, but you're only spending fifteen dollars.

And where the hell did my can of compressed air go? I need to at least try to fix that damn DRE so I can play Splinter Cell, I almost have a 100% on every mission.

killa, they're bringing gta san andreas to the xbox

God im sick of you ****ing fanboys.

They're both as damn good as each other. now shut the **** up and enjoy them instead of spending all your energy in pointlessly bickering about how X-Box is supposedly the tool of Bill Gates or how Sony's PS2 is supposedly of **** quality.

If there was only one, then you would argue about the monopoly it had, and how the creator would be a heartless coporate bastard. And if there were too many, then there would be a crash in the industry, from over-saturation.

now shut the **** up and enjoy those games.

damn fanboys.

The older large model i have put in when i first got GTA:SA i put more then 10 hours straight in no problems.

These problems happen, its hardware. A lot of it has been put down to faulty models and such. A friend of mine got the DRE with SA every now and again, he even lost 50 hours of game play because his saved game became corrupted.

As for SA going to Xbox, it is and very soon. It'll also be appearing on PC. I am going to have to agree, the PS2 whilst i love mine to death, can't really compete with the Xbox power. GTA ran fine on mine with little slowdown and the game has stalled only once. Some users have also put it down to how often you play your PS2 but frankly thats a load of crap because mine has been used and abused and i have never had a problem with my current one.
