I haven't gotten around to creating a character who likes racing yet. However, do not forfeit a race. I've heard that you never count as finishing a race afterwards...

no all swooping is optional

yeah, but the one on Taris means a choice between good guy or bad guy. It's part of the story.
All other Swoop races are not related to the story...

FB, it depends on which Gang you race for, that is the deciding factor, and yes, that race you have do and win for the story to continue.
