Help!!!! please someone anyone!!!

ok, so last night my mouse just stopped working, froze, but everything else was fine so i used the windows button and shut it down, it was about time to hit the hay anyway

so this morning i turn it on, and there isnt even a cursor, nothing, so i think, well crap, my mouse has died. i went out and got a nice shiny new intelimouse, plug her in, restart, no cursor, try to install, error in the drivers...

so, computer wizards, i've navagated here with my keyboard, so i could see if you can help me, im scanning for viruses now i have both norton and AVG running all the time, so i'm wondering what the problem is, ive plugged it into my ps/2 slot and my usb... nothing

any ideas/ suggestions???

Hmm. I forget what causes this. Im not sure of the exact command (common trojan uses it) google around might find a way to fix it.

You may have them running, but have you actually used them to do a full scan yet?

Post Fri Apr 01, 2005 4:00 pm

i have a done a full scan, found one i could delete and another one i couldnt... everyone scan your computer, just in case, this thing sucks. thank for the help but you cant actually scan with norton without a mouse... bit of a problem.... i have soo much crap on my computer i never use anyway, it would probably be good to reformat... im off to shower, if you post a solution within the next 45 minutes thanks if not see you in a day or two =/

Can you do a Systems Restore? If you can, go back to a restore point, and do it, with the new mouse in it. Worked for me when i used a cat.

thanks, where or rather how do i do a system restore? do i need my win. 2000 disk or what?

Reboot in safe mode and ctrl+alt+del anyhting that you dont recognize or that has a really wierd name.

I'm not sure there is a system restore function in Win2K...

If you mean the sys restore disk that resets the windows install you're actually better off wiping everything out and restarting. Also, you should probably just pick one of the virus scanners, I've seen circumstances where two or more were installed and decided to fight eachother as opposed to doing their jobs

alpha-leader:
That's not really a brilliant idea; you should probably Google any programs before you shut them down.

You may find more help on the MS support site. Here

@ evil that is a fine idea. If you are in safe mode then (A) there shouldnt be anyhitng really running. ( that the only thing you truly got to worry about is Explorer.exe (C) that even if you closed the wrong thing its not harmfull. sure it may make the screen empty but just restart. and if you closes explorer.exe or any WINDOWS app you can always start it again by clicking new task then typing in explorer.exe or whatever.
