Serious Posts

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Serious Posts

I think we should make a thread similar to the comical nonsensical thing, but make it serious stuff.

Post Sat Jan 29, 2005 8:53 pm

Any ideas? Anyone?

Post Sat Jan 29, 2005 10:13 pm

Not a bad idea actually...

So it would be something like :

SW - Today went well on TLR. I edited 20 posts today - my best yet ! - and warned 2 people that their threads could be locked if other modertors saw fit. Stinger also contacted me, asking for a few more immature 12 year old kids to populate the forums while all the regulars are gone, and then I did the usual "Burn Taw's photo daily" ritual, as all moderators do. Also, that nasty Neo made my initials "SW", NOT "sw" in his immature post. What an evil little man ...

OR

TheMasterChief - Played Halo today ... For 7 hours ... it is the 1337 game lolroflmao ...

(No offence to MasterChief or sw (Mostly ...))

Hmmm, apparently I don't have the "authority" to delete my own messages, I wonder who does .... ?

It's an interesting idea, but most of the "serious" subjects cannot be discussed here on TLR. For example politics and religion, which are regarded at "serious" by many people, are off-limits. Did you have any topics in mind?

Neo - I *feel* your pain .

Post Sun Jan 30, 2005 12:45 am

Neo you probably cant delete your posts because you have a _ in your name, I know that made me unable to delete.

Demonslayer....well, the normal OT is for serious stuff, what else would you post there if there was a pecial thread for serious stuff? Or am I understanding you wrong?

Demonslayer, do you mean some kind of ticker for random but 'serious' stuff

Nice post Neo, can see why you would have then reconsidered - Of course, if you wanted, you could have edited it simply enough.

As for making a thread for 'serious' things - to what end?

The comical thread was made because everyone who had a joke made a new thread about it - it clutters up forums when that happens.....and people have to search hard to find funny stuff - or may miss it! Having one centralised thread means that you can go and read a whole bunch of jokes/funny stuff at once. Its exceedingly 'handy', with the common theme being humour....and the 'subject' matter for each post is contained in one single post - with no need to run into other posts etc.

As for making one thread that contains all serious discussion - it runs into problems. Not least, if more than one or two discussions were going, it would be near impossible to read through, or keep abreast of.....
The scope of subject matter is so wide that the continuation of theme for a discussion upon on subject matter would be lost in amongst the many topics that may be discussed. You may have seen the 'answer question/ask question' type threads - where often instead of answering one before asking their own, you would just get a whole ream of questions in a row instead. You may not get a discussion, but lots of posts of differing things to be discussed..

To that end, its far easier to make a new thread for each discussion topic - simpler and easier on all accounts....especially for the reader - who could see a topic, and read it if they wanted....not having to wade through pages of other things that may not be of interest. How about if you wanted to post your view on an earlier discussion after a few pages had elapsed? It would break the continuation of discussion again

I personally think it would be best to discuss each in individual threads - after all - threads aren't a premium

As for not discussing religion or politics: The open nature of these forums, where any person is invited to interact with anyone else - stating their views (within the rules/regs) and opinions upon any subject that tickles their fancy....its obvious that subjects like those two, which invariably are deep seated topics in peoples hearts - and therefore they are passionate about them, create an opportunity for it going 'wrong' on an epic scale. (long sentance!)
I don't think I have ever seen a political discussion between opposing people with opposing opinions, who aren't great mates, not getting 'dirty'. Same for religious topics, and even if they manage it - all it takes is one person to say something catalystic - and it all goes 'Pete Tong'.

Thats just my view of course, feel free to debate if you disagree or think I'm wrong

It all depends upon the quality and maturity of a forum's posters Chips. If all of the people involved in a forum are mature enough to disagree, but not to resort to flaming, then such topics work well. There are very few forums like this however, and I can't even *think* of such a forum off-hand.

no offense taken neo

Post Sun Jan 30, 2005 2:00 pm

I'm not talking stuff not allowed on this site, I mean mature stuff just to talk about.

Post Sun Jan 30, 2005 2:56 pm

that'll be the day..

Post Sun Jan 30, 2005 2:57 pm

What sort of "mature stuff"? Be specific man!

Post Sun Jan 30, 2005 3:18 pm

You also have to consider the links people post. Most of those are to ...well, comical, amusing, or nonsensical sites. But what if you wanted to post a link for a serious site?
