Running Privateer PERFECTLY in win xp, this is it

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

sw - I run everything I can in either 1280x960 or 1280x1024.

Eraser - I have tried using ALoader, but the performance seemed to be about the same as DOSBox, so I stick with it and use some nice graphics filtering .

Mamiya - I was wondering when you were going to show up . How's version 1.0 Pre4 going?

Esq...I meant screen size in inches 17" 19" 21" 15" ?
or do you call that something else? because we call it screen size over here

Ah, I thought that you were referring to the resolution in relation to my comments over the base graphics. My monitor is a 19" Philips that supports resolutions up to 1290x1440.

"But feel free to go ahead and tryout both." You think I didn't before posting that? lol When I play privateer in actual DOS, it needs IRQ 5 (what my soundcard uses). When playing in DOSbox it needs to be 7. I'll repeat, in DOSbox, privateer does not use your soundcard directly, it uses an emulated card provided by DOSbox.

Look in dosbox.conf, the relevant section is this
"[sblaster
# type -- Type of sblaster to emulate:none,sb1,sb2,sbpro1,sbpro2,sb16.
# base,irq,dma,hdma -- The IO/IRQ/DMA/High DMA address of the SoundBlaster.
# mixer -- Allow the SoundBlaster mixer to modify the dosbox mixer.
# oplmode -- Type of OPL emulation: auto,cms,opl2,dualopl2,opl3.
# On auto the mode is determined by sblaster type.
# oplrate -- Sample rate of OPL music emulation.

type=sb16
base=220
irq=7
dma=1
hdma=5
mixer=true
oplmode=auto
oplrate=22050"

Those are the settings you need to choose in Privateer's setup. Of course, you could have different numbers in there, but those are the default. ****big disclaimer**** what I just posted could be specific to the Linux version. That would surprise me, but certainly leaves the possibility that we are both right

Esqy: pre4 is coming along nicely. We might even have a replacement for the occkpits by the time it goes 1.0. All of a sudden three different people are making a Tarsus cockpit. Hopefully one of them finishes and moves on to the next three

Sounds great! I keep thinking of signing up to the forum, but I do not know whether or not I have much to say . Oh, and expect an email from me. I want to ask you something.

I'll be the one doing the bending here... What I found is that you need to have the same in the Dosbox settings and the game settings to make it work.

So If you have Irq 7 in the DosBox config file, you need to have Irq 7 when you install and setup the sound for Privateer.

If you have Irq 5 in DosBox you will have to have Irq 5 when you setup Privateer. that simple.

So sorry about the misunderstandings and faults on my part! This wasn't ment as a wiseguy Thread tho, I only made this Thread to help others play this game...

and that's all I was trying to do as well It's good to get stuff like this figured out, that's the whole purpose of the thread (I didn't always know that stuff about IRQs either). Your walkthrough will hopefully help people get started playing some great old games!

Yep, good old nostalgia gaming. More of it I say! I'd be playing KQ6 right now, but ironically *it* is playing games with *me* .

Actually, you don't need DOSBox to run those programs. ScummVM is a great program that allows those games to run almost flawlessly. I use it for the first two "Monkey Island" games. It's available on Sourceforge,
