Battlestar Galactica

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Post Fri Mar 18, 2005 1:24 am

i don't see anything wrong with it as it is screning every saturday here in new zealand i i have not missed a day of it

Post Fri Mar 18, 2005 2:28 am

I love the show!!

It's being screened here in the UK as well, and the first series finished late last year.

Apollo and dare I say it, Baltar are most fit.

I believe Black Hawk Down was the producer's inspiration for the gritty and realistic space combat scenes.

Post Fri Mar 18, 2005 8:26 am

what? are you implying you cant like stargate AND battlestar galactica? what about SG1 AND atlantis...im so confused! surely...room...for...multiple...shows?

Post Fri Mar 18, 2005 8:45 am

Thus speaks to great lord of all things small and unimportent DSQrn!

Now i shall show you the lore to the Box of images.

One must avoid branch of series like Stargate alantis for it pales in comparisson to Stargate SG1.
One must Avoid the remakes of T.V shows unless proper confirmation of there excellence from the Lord of All things small and unimportent.
One must Avoid 21st century law shows for they are not worthy.
One must Avoid Sci-Fi shows that are unoffical remakes of star trek.
One must flock to Shows Space channel in Canada shows lest it be buffy the vampire slayer, a show not worthy.
One must realize HBO bites
One must Avoid Shows that are American and make digs at the russians becuase of angry americans still bitter about the cold war.
One must realize if you are to watch TBS you must have a book at hand due to prolonged comerical breaks.

Thus Spoke DSQrn

Those are my guidlines to watching T.V, did that clear up everything Arcon?

*clears throat*

Those are my guidlines to watching T.V, did that clear up everything Arcon?

all but what the frak aviod means, is that a word from canadia?

im going to assume it means avoid.

One must (avoid) branch of(f) series like Stargate alantis for it pales in comparisson to Stargate SG1.
Lies. Atlantis is ok, the wraith are cool, it explores the ancients more, and there's a hawtie on the team...no more mumbling carter anymore. Its the first damned series, you cant expect a brand new series to sweep in and outdo the original show its a spin off from. Galactica can because the cult status of the original is turned on its head by completely rewriting the rules. Theyve come in and re-evaluated everything...nothing is sacred, and as such, everything gets improved. Atlantis is flawed because the stargate universe is flawed, because the Stargate concept of planet of the week has huge limitations. The formula is as old as Star Trek TOS and is out trekking star trek these days because ST got lost in technobabble and SG1 knows whats important. Although its completely americanised, SG1 is more true to ST:TOS than ST:V and ST:E. Galactica doesnt use this plot device. it tells different tales and different challenges of refugees who just want to escape. They dont want a fight, they dont want to die. Worlds apart sunshine.
And what is stargate alanis? you canucks are obsessed with her arent you?

One must (Avoid) the remakes of T.V shows unless proper confirmation of there excellence from the Lord of All things small and unimportent.
This remake is WIDELY regarded as the best thing on tv at the moment, that and Lost of course. amazon feedback, IMDB, aintitcoolnews.com, Evil Avatar. Need i go on?

One must Aviod Sci-Fi shows that are unoffical remakes of star trek.
Lets not pretend that Enterprise wasnt official. Admit it, Paramount have fallen asleep at the wheel of their franchise. ST needs to die. In 10 years, someone with vision and a few stories will bring it back like they brought Galactica back and we can all gather round the tv and with hazily glossed over memories of star trek that it was aways good, then we'll see that the new trek is good too and pretend it was always like this. Lets not pretend that the original battlestar galactica was fantastic. This show is, it works NOW, the original galactica hasnt stood the test of time.

One must flock to Shows Space channel in Canada shows lest it be buffy the vampire slayer, a show not worthy.
Can you stop peaking canadian please, us english dont get your crazy blathering. Are you implying that buffy wasnt any good? because i've seen rating statistics that say otherwise...plus, you know...experience.

One must realize HBO bites
Oh, just because you dont 'get' the subtle genius that is HBO, doesnt mean it bites. They spend a bit more on set design, plot, actors. You know, the important things. Sopranos, Carnivale, Deadwood, Curb Your Enthusiasm. Im sure they all bite in Canadia but the rest of the world thinks theyre pretty neat.

One must Aviod Shows that are American and make digs at the russians becuase of angry americans still bitter about the cold war.
What about SG1s russians, man are they not well represented eigh? Why would americans be bitter about the cold war? they freaking WON it. I would think maybe having a show set with the vietnamese would make them a bit more bitter.

One must realize if you are to watch TBS you must have a book at hand due to prolonged comerical breaks.
TBS?

Thus Spoke DSQrn
Or rather, "tried to".

Sorry when i typed that i had just woke up im gunna spell check it now

And for the last frickin time is Canada, No i (no it really doesnt have a i, look it up it really doesnt)
Actualy i like Carter heh, as for the alantis girl... nah nothing

Enterprise sucks, i dont consider it offical. i mean all the shows that rip off star trek.

As for the russians in SG-SG1, watch the frickin thing man. They are not ill-repersented at all. Heck there is a russian team. Sure it shows that they dont like the yanks becuase alot of russians dont from my experience.

As for HBO, Shows like Godiva's Suck Royally. Everyone is trying to be fricking orginal by having a group of young adults running a store or resteruant. HBO is dried to the bone. As for the majority of people, they can bite me.

TBS= Turner Broadcast Station i do believe, American channel we get up here. It is overly Riddled with commericals and stupidity. Parts of the shows are cut for the commericals. Talk about slaughter of art...

what rips off star trek most? erm...stargate!!!!!
Oh COME ON! you cant say that the russians are well represented in stargate AT ALL. Russia is America's lapdog in SG1, America is the laid back "we're going to save the world damnit!" type and the russians are just money hungry asses who want their power back. Its non-stop stereotypes from beginning to end. Hell, the episode with the "big six" where the stargate project was revealed to them was just cringeworthy.
One show doesnt make the channel either. Its a subscriber channel and because of it, they have higher production values. Just because you dont like one show, doesnt mean everything else is whank.
Sopranos, Deadwood, Carnivale, While i didnt like it or watch it, Sex and the City was a fantastic hit, Six feet under, OZ, curb your enthusias. These are all great shows. You name another channel that has consistantly succesful shows like that? Who do their own thing not what the ratings tell them to do. Thats the beauty of subscibtion channels. People go to them if they want to watch that show, so theyre catering to a specific taste.

what first series are we talking about here? stargate sg1, atlantis, galactica, enterprise???

Post Fri Mar 18, 2005 11:39 am

I think my last mention was Stargate TOS.... Aka the Good one (neener neener)

I am afully confused now

Post Fri Mar 18, 2005 11:50 am

i mean which one has bullets, earth is about to be destroyed, one that doesnt have space ships. and i dont give a ****e about the asthetics. Stargate rips off startrek so much i half expect a vulcan to tell o'niell to live long and prosper.
The enterprise was invented as a way to take our crew from world to world. In TOS, what was important was establishing the story as quickly and teleporting the crew down to the planet. The Transporter was invented as a plot device so that the crew could quickly and cheaply be on the planet. THEN each planet had a specific problem that the crew needed to solve, put right. new worlds, new civilisations. What the frak do you think SG1 are doing? SG1 is kirk, bones, mr spock and scotty. Solving all problems head on and always making it back. The wormhole is an updated transporter, its the same plot device. In later years though, star trek lost its way and made the world outside the planets its primary focus. The ship became more important, the technology became the forefront, plots about the deflector shield were ****e and as such the show became less popular. Stargate went back to what made Star Trek good in the first palce and kept with that formula. Stargate dumbs everything down with o'niell. he's the key character, he represents the audience. He's the dumbest one on the team, but yet he's in charge. Everyone who spurts technobabble gets a rude look from jack and then its put into layman's terms. Stargate ISNT about the technology, its about the people again, and thats why i think its good sci-fi. Same with atlantis. You couldnt have a succesful sci fi show now without the science, but many do it at a cost of the fiction. Atlantis' John Shepherd is almost a carbon copy of o'niell, you could easily replace the two cahracters at any point. We know he's not interested in the science, he's the character we relate to.

Hats off to stargate's team who know how to spin this kind of show, i really think paramount could do a whole lot worse than hiring these folks to revive the franchise. But when it comes down to it, Stargate stole the basic formula for trek and have run with it, there's no escaping it.

Pff,

i mean no Crap star trek and star wars are the founding blocks of modern Sci-fi.
And yes there exploring space, i did frown on the series when it introduced ship travel. But also they have other plot ideas that star trek didnt use, and there is one thing that does put a big diff between SG and ST.

The Federation, considered one of the most advanced and civilized forms of goverment in the galaxy.
Earth, Backwater underdevolped planet that is on the verge of getting crushed by huge nasties. Over all inStargate there is one enemy and one cause. There isnt that in Star Trek.
