Shifting to Australia advice

As the subject indicates, I'm moving to Australia soon, near the end of March next year when I'm 18 to be more exact. So I have a few questions I hope the Australians in this site won't mind helping me out with. First of all, I'm a New Zealander, and from what I've read on immigration sites and from word of mouth, I understand I don't require a special visa or permit to live and work in Australia, just my NZ passport. Can anyone confirm this? Also, I want to secure work and a place to flat at before I get there, is this feasible? The place I'm going to is Tamworth. Am I much better off just saving up and living off my own money and then applying for jobs like mad once I arrive?

Tamworth is, as I understand it, a large country town. Although it is large, it ain't no Melbourne . Because of this I would imagine that, depending upon your skills/interests, finding work may be a little tricky (but not overly so). Because of that, checking the feasibility of work would probably be a good idea (and would be good idea in any similar situation).

i hope you like country music because in tamworth every year or so they hold a country music festival where people come and play their country style songs

supposed to be nice people there aswell so should be good there

Yep, you'll be okay to just come visit and work without work visas and the like. Can't really comment on the job situation in Tamworth though but it's always better to have a job lined up. Of course that usually isn't possible unless your working for a company that is going to send you over here.

Tamworth? *must resist jokes about hicks and country music*

Tamworth is a fair way out from sydney, and from any major town. (thats cos it is the major town in the area. be warned.

Yeah, I'm going to Tamworth specifically because there are certain people there I would like to be near. Then maybe moving to Armidale or somewhere near there after the year is up.

Armadale, eh? Nice! I hope that you can afford it .

Well, I think I've got the job part all secured and ready. I'm employed by Godfreys here in NZ, but they have stores all over Australia, including one in Tamworth. So hopefully I'll be able to get a transfer. Fingers crossed.
