Semi-Old Games

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Semi-Old Games

Lately, I have been playing some of my semi-old Pre Windows XP games, such as Jedi Knight II Jedi Outcast, Battlezone II, etc. The only problem being that one of my favorite classics, MechWarrior 3, does not operate properly on XP... any of you tech gurus know how to get this one running on XP?

Post Mon Dec 13, 2004 8:10 pm

no but try Mech 4, it works fine and is fun

The problem being of course that i'd have to buy a new game, and that it doesn't have the same old, somewhat crappy mystique of #3

You'll have to provide us with more information. What is the problem that you are having exactly? Graphical? Sound? Are there any error messages? Which version of XP are you using? What are your specs?

Go to its parent website and download patch 1.02, if I'm not mistaken. Or google it. Or else, after exhausting all methods, I can email you the patch. Give me a holler at weesp209 at hotmail.com and tell me your email address. Had the same problem as you once and the patch fixed it for me. And may I say, that MW3 is in many ways (except for its horrible Weapons Bay interface) superior to MW4? better story, better storytelling and presentation (it felt like a real military campaign, not like MW4's space soap opera).

Try installing in Win98/Me compatability mode. I had to do that with Freespace 2 to make it work on XP.

Edit: Forget this method. I got to the third mission and the framerates dropped to a crawl, then the system just crashed. I've uninstalled, and reinstalled in XP, and now it's working fine, go figure? Problem I had was that the briefing animations were garbled and the game (not system) would crash. Oh well, live and learn.

Jedi Outcast and Freespace 2 both worked fine for me on XP. The only thing that didn't work was my drivers for a lego webcam.

I'm running Win XP professional. I don't have the patch for mw3 yet, its difficult to track down. The problems with it are a mix of all: graphical, and functionality. Also, another question with JKII, Jedi outcast. I'm working on re-learning some of the lightsaber combo moves... what's the command for stabbing backwards?

Post Tue Dec 14, 2004 3:35 pm

If you want the actual stab move you need "Fast" lightsabre dueling on and the combo is just back (S) and attack when your enemy is directly behind you. As with all the special moves in JO (and JA as well) timing is everything.

oh your having graphic problems, go into th options and recofig your settings

I've played the JA demo, and am debating about purchasing the game, since its mostly a rehash (though an entertaining one) of JO. One thing I do like, is the specifically listed combo attacks, where in JO its mostly a find-them-out-for-yourself task, with no official list of what you can do. Wall-walking is my current favorite, though after playing JA its somewhat dissapointing.

Edit: Thanks for all your help! MW3 is now up and running successfully.

I liked JA ithought it was much betterr than JO.JO was to complicated, there was way to much problem solving for my liking. JA on the ohter hand was nothing but laser blasting and sabre fighting(the good stuff).

Saber dueling has improved much. However, the device called the "PMS" is no longer the most powerful weapon IMO.

Post Thu Dec 16, 2004 7:16 pm

WTF is that supposed to mean?

Post Fri Dec 17, 2004 11:27 am

What? PMS IMO the most powerful weapons in the game are the Stouker cuncussion rifle and the rocket launcher
